Um, you suck (<- is taking flamebait).
DKP is the fairest of any system out there. It rewards time spent learning and/or farming instances.
DKP Systems

My guild on Deathwing uses a zero sum dkp system based off of the Elitist Jerks dkp rules (from what I know). There is no dkp awarded for arriving on time, for time spent in the raid, raid completion, nor for boss kills. Our dkp system is purely based on the loot that drops and how much dkp is spent.
Non-tier loot is done by whisper bids to the loot master and highest current dkp wins. Tier loot is handled such that the highest dkp for the class gets it, if that person doesn't have the item already.
As for tier loot, we also have upgrade paths to make the spending of dkp the same for everyone. For instance, if we kill onyxia and 2 bloodfang hoods drop, the 2 rogues with the highest current dkp (whom don't have their tier 2 helm already) will get it. Say the one rogue has his tier 1 and the other has some random blue. The rogue with the blue will spend a lot more on this particular item at this time than the rogue with the tier 1 because the second rogue already spent dkp to get his tier 1, but the cost of the tier 1 + upgrade to tier 2 will equal the dkp spent by the other rogue for the tier 2.
The more dkp people spend, the more everyone else earns. If we kill a boss and dust everything, noone earns any dkp. Oh, and double dkp for first time boss kills.
We also try to have 1 epic per run, per person, unless an epic drops that you want and noone else does, then you can take it (often we will have someone on their first MC run get 2 or more tier items because all other class members already have them.

Your system is probably the best one I have heard so far. You can't be handing out DKP for just showing up because it messes everything up and doesn't actually make it "zero sum". The only problem I see with this system is if the person with the Tier 1 helm bottom fed the helm, then he should be paying the same amount as the person with the blue item. But who the heck would want to keep track of all that stuff for a game...Deathticle wrote:My guild on Deathwing uses a zero sum dkp system based off of the Elitist Jerks dkp rules (from what I know). Ya, we find all the extra dkp for "effort" just inflates the system.
Well in the end they would pay the same. Let me try to get some numbers...
Ok, one hunter in the guild had a blue helm (let's say the backwood helm) and he wins the GS tier 1 helm. THe cost of the item is 100 dkp.
If that hunter were to then win the DS Tier 2 helm drop off onyxia, he would pay 50 dkp on the upgrade path.
But now say that same hunter with the blue helm went to onyxia first and didn't have his tier 1 helm. If he won the DS helm, he would pay 150 dkp, thus spending the same to get to the same spot.
We also have downgrade rules, so if this hunter got his Tier 2 before his Tier 1, and the Tier 1 dropped and noone else but him needed it, he would get it for zero dkp. Usually, the person taking the downgrade would only take it if noone else needed it because usually the higher tier item is better, but we do make exceptions if the tier 1 will complete the persons set because some set bonuses are worth it.

On the thread topic...
DKP really doesn't mean much anyway if the everyone is striving for guild progression and not just how epic'd out they can make their character. All it means is who gets the item first... and sometimes not even then. When a hunter item drops in my guild, the person with the most dkp has first dibs on it. However, the highest dkp person usually ends up passing it to the person who needs it the most, whether it be because it'd be a big upgrade or for a set piece bonus or whatever - because that's what helps us the most as a guild. They're not forced to in any way, nor looked down upon if they do take it for themselves (after all, they earned the dkp.) Raiding is so much more pleasant when everyone gets along
