Questions from a newb...

Post by cmbrooker85 »

Im just starting out but i have a few questions that need some answering. Any help would be appreciated...

1. Im interested in playing a Rogue but im very into PvP and i was wondering if theyre a good class end game for PvP? Are they any good at 1on1 PvP? And are they every wanted in groups for PvP or are they useless?

2. I was looking at the realm stats and it seems the better populated servers with the best activity ratios are "Normal" servers where you have to have PvP turned on. Since im into PvP is it unwise to play on a normal server? Do people not PvP much on them?

3. If im East Coast is it gona end up hurting me in game if im on a server thats Pacific or central?

thanks...

1) Rogues can do very well at pvp if played correctly. The game isn't really balanced for nor tends to have true 1v1 PvP that often - rogues have classes they find easier to beat, and ones they find harder. It's pretty much like that with any class. As far as organized pvp groups go, most groups have more than enough dps classes and lack healing/support classes, but if you start your own group you can insure yourself a spot :P

2) If you're really into pvp, you'll want to roll on a pvp server. However, most of the pvp from 1-59 will be you getting ganked by enemy higher levels, besides what's in instanced battlegrounds (they're in brackets - 10-19, 20-29, etc.) Blizzard is trying to do what they can to encourage world pvp, but they can only do so much. You'll level faster on a normal server, due to the lack of pvp interference while you're questing, grinding, whatever. It's really up to you; if you like the challenge of always being on your toes, you'd rather roll on a pvp server.

3) With cross-realm battlegrounds out, there's bgs going around the clock, so your time doesn't matter much. If you're interested in end-game raiding, however, it might be tough as raids will start later than your time (for instance, a raid that starts at 7pm PST is 10 EST, which might keep you up late.) Personally I'm on EST and play on a CST server, and it's not that big of a deal but it's only an hour. I wouldn't move any further than that.

Hope that helps. :)

My 2 cents...

1. PvP is great for a rogue since it is one of the key DPS classes. Unfortunately, you will have to PvE until level 60 (70). It basically... erm... sucks because there are soo many rogues out there. Everyone wants to put out the damage, but there has always been a lack of healers. Don't get me wrong, it is very viable for you to hit your required level but it will be more frustrating because of class imbalances.

3. If you're east coast you may want to find a server that's on your time, even though it doesn't really matter. The people you constantly *group* with with (or guild) you will want to have predominantly on your time zone :)
