Hunter traps can be set while in combat, but require a 2 second arming time..does this mean that this ability can be interrupted by a rogue using kick or a warrior using a shield bash?
You lay the mine instantly and then it takes two seconds before it's armed, unfortunately several rogues managed to kill my hunter in that time, gear owns everything and crits that do more than my total hp's are hard to counter...

That's how it works, they go down immediately but take about 2 seconds before they go off. If you're right in melee range you can see them put it down, and a lot of times if they're backing up as they lay it you can get out of range of the trap before it goes off.
