New server Population Imbalance problem

Post by paul6 »

Hi, I recently started playing on one of the two new PVP realms that launched with the release of TBC: Auchindoun. Unfortunately, due to the high popularity of making Blood Elf Paladins, our server ended up having an almost 5 to 1, Horde to Alliance ratio. I even contributed to this problem myself by rolling Horde.

Since people here seem to more familiar with population mechanics, I thought I'd pose the question here. Do you think the population problem is permanent or will it pan out after a few month? I can imagine it dropping to 3:1 or maybe 2:1, but will it ever drop down to being an even balance?

It's all a bit of a trend right now. New racials that make every side take interest coupled with the new classess you will get that uneven surge. Overall horde and alliance activity will pan out eventually, since most people have started these characters just to test the waters.

I'd give it a while.

I don't know if it will balance out - but it's really imbalanced on new servers among the horde races as well - Moon Guard's horde is 56% Blood Elves, from what I've tracked.

New servers now will start out and probably remain heavily horde dominated, might be annoying for alliance but at least BG's are most of the time mixed with older servers so queues shouldn't be too bad. Interesting effect down the line might be that hard core PvP'ers will roll alliance for shorter queues ;)

Some servers stay horde dominated... Mal'ganis has been horde dominated since it was down for a few days after release and a lot of alliance left. It's really not that big of a deal if you're worried about cross realm battlegrounds - a lot of PvE servers are (and will probably remain) very heavily alliance dominated, so if anything it will just help to even it out a bit. If you want to be in the minority in world pvp though, then I guess that won't happen on one of the new servers.

There's no way to know for sure, but I don't see horde keeping a population edge overall for very long - just long enough for some people to try out their blood elves :P
