So now that we are approaching have 1 month's worth of data, I will need to start doing some date checks.
What do you guys feel is 'current data'? Is 1 month's worth current? More? Less?
I will always maintain historical data, but the main census display will need to be restricted to a set date range. I am thinking 30 days is a good number to use, and I *may* even toy with the idea of allowing that to be user selectable, we'll see.
What are your thoughts on what 'current data' is?

phpbb:phpinfo()
I would say any character that has not gained a level in 30 days should be removed from the system. This would apply to all characters <40. Any 40+ character should be kept for at least 3 months. If
If only the .lua files timestamped the /who
Hopefully people are purging results before taking a new census and submitting.
Hopefully the updated census tool will purge automatically or time stamp results.

Dunno, one month may be a bit short for kids summer holidays ? .Rollie wrote:What do you guys feel is 'current data'? Is 1 month's worth current? More? Less?
please do with some standard durations, likeI *may* even toy with the idea of allowing that to be user selectable, we'll see.
- one week
- one month
- two or six ?
- forever
of course the shortest period must be weighed against the frequency of the data updates
I would propably say 6 weeks for various reasons, one of which being that the frequency of data polling and the hours at which data is polled varies quite a bit. Checked mine and some friends char history on different servers and I my least played alts have more hits on BH than some people I know that play 12+ hours a day a single char on other servers.

I think one month time is a very good time frame to be caught in a census. Most servers don't go a week without a census unless they are very underpopulated.
Obviously not every last character is caught, but 1 month is plenty of time to be caught on the census.
Now AFTER level 40... it should go up to 3 months... after level 50... up to 6 months before being removed.

I think the data of WoW population since it's start will be a valuable information in a few years and should not be deleted. It must not be done now, but try tolet user coose since when he wants to get information.
For me current data is no more than 2 weeks, if data is collected frequently, so 3 or 4 weeks will be fine.
Other great information is the historical of our and our guild progress. To see when our char was born, when he entered his 1st guild, when he left it and entered another... I think it's very funny to have them

I would opine that "current data" be left at 6 weeks for all characters. Higher level characters don't mean anything if they're never played. Also, frankly, in another month, no one will care how many level 40 characters are out there. At that point, the core player base will all be 60 or quickly approaching it. Maybe you could make an exemption for 50+... but even that doesn't mean much at the end of the day, any more.
In short. Set it to 6 weeks for all characters.
