Serious problem with addon
Serious problem with addon
I spent hours last night trying to update up to 30 realms both alliance and horde.
Yet, after my upload was processed it said there were no entries? What is that? How can that happen?
I am really trying to help you guys out by keeping up realms no one else wants to update...
I mean that is up to 60 updates I did considering both factions...and all that data was lost somehow?
Am I supposed to purge my database before taking a census every time I do this? I am very confused...I mean I am just trying to help out here.

Hello there!
Generally, 0 0 Y means that the file was submitted successfully, but did not contain any new data... or in some rare cases, didn't contain any data at all...
You have made successful submissions before, so you know how the system works... is there any chance that you could have submitted a wrong file? Or... an empty one?
EDIT for additional note: As long as the file size does not exceed 10MB, manual uploads function fine. If one uses UniUploader, even bigger files are possible, though not recommended as smaller files are "easier" to process and tend to contain less redudant data.

I guess using the automated submission on the site doesn't allow for a large file? All i had to do was choose the file location under saved variables and found the right one, and then click process...is this limited to only 10mb?1974ER wrote:Hello there!

I ran over about 26-28 realms with perhaps easily up to 30,000 characters seen or close enough. Being that it was for both Horde and Alliance I guess it must have been too large...
what is this UniUploader thing? I could just try that.
And will purging on any realm purge the entire DB completely of all data?
EDIT: When setting up UniUploader I am getting this error as well:
Error => Unable to query : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3 on line: 285 of /home/wrlogin/public_html/uniupload.php
I have properly selected my account, and also selected Census plus for the SV, Compression is enabled, and my User and Pwd are entered with send psw securely off...
Kind of stinks I am having these issues, thought I would post this just for the heck of it.
Found the problem here: change 'Username' and Password' to 'user' and 'pw' under the Options tab...everything else set the same...it went through! Few.
Hello again!
Manual uploading is limited to 10MB. Also, if you try upload a file exceeding that, you will eventually get an error message telling you that your file is too big.
10MB equals with fairly high accuracy 92 500 characters in the file, at least for me.
As Fuxie noted, purge and prune work on database level. However, command /censusplus prune x can take any value between 0 and 30 as x. Using 0 makes the prune the equalent of purge, wiping all data. 30 keeps the data from last 30 days. Picking a value in between will spare days equal to x and is preferred by some people who like to keep some local data available to themselves. Others purge daily... or even after every submission. What one does, is pretty much a question of personal preference.
I don't use the UniUploader, so I can't comment on it much... however, there are several threads about it on the forum. Some of them contain lots of useful advice for various troubles.

Thanks for that information you guys. Guess the reason UniUploader is great is because it reduces the file size and somehow makes things a tad more eficient (having a brain fart with spelling). As it did have the option to remove profile and soem other things on an older version of it.1974ER wrote:Hello again!

I was able to submit successfully last night using UU, but soon after it wouldn't let me again with again another SQL syntax error...errr!
Anyway, I am wondering if this whole thing is even reliable to tell what the population of WoW is considering all seen characters in the last 30 days does not equal accounts seen. As anyone can have multiple toons across multiple servers. Be better if this thing could see accounts by ID at least.
A lot of people start alts and never again return onto the server. Perhaps this is something Blizzard could do with their API or addon code stuff.
EDIT: Guess it is simply better to just Purge after every day, then submit.
Strange things are happening. My Census file is about 4MB. Actually slightly smaller. I have been updating for quite some time now. I have been getting daily numbers averaging about 900 updates and 100 new entries. Well as of 6-26 my numbers are as follows:
6-26 58 4
6-27 23 0
6-28 3 0
6-29 0 0
6-29 0 0
I am exiting from WoW before submitting. As I said I am not new to this but this is something that has just started.

Hello there Dameon!
The dates and related figures make ask... are you running on automatic settings and possibly also using Uniuploader? Maybe, just maybe your Censusplus is not running anymore, due to the patch and you are uploading the same file as before?
Also, have you been having frequent disconnections from Battle.net, especially during logging out/exiting game? That has been known to cause failures in the various .luas getting saved properly, in some rare cases even the wiping them.
Check that "out of date" addons are still in use. That might solve your problem. If not, let us know and someone might come up with other ideas than the ones I listed...

Not using uniuploader. Could never get that to work right. Out of date is checked of course so my other addons will work. No, no disconnects. I will check CensusPlus to make sure it is still running. Didn't lok at that yet and can't right now but will in the morning. I'll let you know then. I am betting that it stopped when the patch came out although I didn't change anything it really shouldn't have. And the patch came out on the 28th so that doesn't explain the numbers from the 26th and 27th. Maybe all the people on my server really don't exist and this part of the matrix has been abandoned only no one sent me the memo.

Hehe, there is one "opposite" possibility... namely, that some is "competing" with you for the updates...
Have you checked your server's stats for the amount of submissions? Maybe it's growing faster than what you alone are doing? Someone else submitting more often than you might severely cut your numbers down, especially if you play and census on fairly low population faction(s) (late at night and / or very early mornings) (and submit only once per day or less).
As an additional thought, which just struck me after examining my own stats for 29th and 30th.. take a look at your local data structure. Are there a LOT of 85s in it, maybe even more than usually? It's entirely possible that a lot of people are playing with their level 85 mains, which are in well established guilds, so they generate zero new info even if they play a lot, since they don't level and aren't very likely to switch guilds either....
Also, related to my earlier ideas... check that your .lua file is actually growing. That is, note down the file size before running WoW (and CensusPlus) and after you stop. If the file size hasn't changed at all, then the data is failing to save, for unknown reason. IF that's the case, you might try deleting the .lua entirely and trying again.
Now, I need to eat breakfast so I am taking a break here. Good luck getting things sorted out, keep us up to date!

EDIT: Very important note! If your faction(s) is / are small, you may need to examine the file size of the .lua at byte level... very small number of new characters will not necessarily increase file size from for example 4,23 MB to 4,24 MB.

Well, I finally got a chance to check and Census is definitely running. It gives me numbers in the notification area. I do know these numbers are not what is going to show after submission so I just ignore them but they do show everything is working. Those numbers do seem to be about the same as normal.
I am on Whisperwind and this is a high population server. I am only doing the alliance side although every once in a while I dabble in the dark side and census the horde.
Well, I was going along at about 10k plus submission a month. I know I know you guys submit in the hundreds of thousands. lol Now it appears I am going to get maybe 1k a month. If this continues I may just stop as it is just wasting my bandwidth for so little.
And to whoever has taken over my census...Dual...Outside Stormwind Gates...4PM Server time. Mwahahahaha

Hello once again... You commented on several things, but... Did you check the .lua file itself, as I suggested? In other words, is the data getting saved correctly and file getting bigger, however slowly? On a high population server there should be daily growth.
EDIT: I just re-examined your profile... the two latest submissions brought something, but the amounts were minimal compared to your earlier results... So... data is getting in, but you are getting very little credit... It really looks like someone is competing heavily with you... Do you play together with someone who also uses Censusplus? Because it almost looks like someone always submits just a few moments before you do...
EDIT of EDIT:
Also, could you try, just for testing purposes, to submit multiple times during a single day?

EDIT of EDIT:

I haven't been on at all this weekend so haven't been able to tack the file size. I will look at that.
No, Don't know anyone else who is using Census. Who is it. I'm gonna.... hee hee
I will try submitting several times when I get a chance. I don't play alot during the week except Mondays and Fridays when the wife isn't here.

There is no hurry for the file check, besides even small amounts of data are useful... also, for a successful test about 20 to 30 minutes will be enough. Run one single census, submit, run one or more censuses to pass about 15+ minutes and submit again.
EDIT: I just rechecked your profile again... your submission from last night shows much more normal figures for you... Did something specific change in the past about two days?
