I am sure glad I don't work at Blizzard Customer Service
Seems like every thing the Devs or Engineers do breaks something

Yeah, interesting to hear you guys have troubles too, there's a common misconception on the European forums that everyone in the US is playing just fine and it's only our servers that were totally wrecked!
My high pop realm was even worse than I expected, I've had dc's, unable to login, enormous lag issues (at one point zero NPCs visible), garrison broken, bottleneck quests made even worse by the lag meaning we couldn't even see mobs more than 5 yards away... it's been painful. very painful. Seems alright now, but it's 3am, I thought it might work better to go to bed early and then get up very early in hopes of it actually working!

From my point of view this is the worst showing for Blizzard to date. After resetting UI, deleting, etc that are the core of the Blizzard troubleshooting flowchart for kicks I uninstalled and reinstalled the game to see how that would work out lol. 30 gig download later and you guessed it, did not help. Glad I didn't take vacation time or extra days off for the launch circus event.
There was no need to do anything on your end, one look at the forums would likely have told you it's serverside
I don't understand why it's gone so wrong, they should be well used to launches by now, and I'd actually have expected the number of people hitting the servers to be lower than some past ones, so I don't really see why it's fallen over so badly.

I know I didn't need to but I was REALLY bored, LOL.
My guess is this is an unexpected repercussion from the connecting of realms. The number of subscribers is not at its peak by any means. The number of realms has not decreased but the limits on the connected sets has to have played a role in the mess. I tried logging into 3 realms that I know have under a couple hundred regular characters each and they were locked. They would occasionally show up in the list as low population but still had a 2000 player queue. Next login attempt and they are full then locked again.

They've lowered the cap on every server to try and stablise them, that's why even lower pop realms are locked at present - feels very weird seeing the entire list of English EU realms locked, but that happened last night! Was needed, for all I hate queues (and my server had a 4k queue before the cap was lowered...), I'd rather wait longer and be able to actually play when I get there.
Anyway, our realms are coming for for emergency maintenance shortly, hopefully whatever they do there will work and then be applied to your too. Can tell it's a bad issue, the US blue posters keep popping up on our forum with updates, that's unheard of, we're the forgotten division of WoW

Haha true indeed. That being said, they should have been prepared for some things... MoP launch and every content patch since, queues of 1500-2k on my server, every single evening for 2-3 months. Quite a lot of us were calling for a block on incoming transfers until it calmed down, never happened. Now, yes, we've not been queued much the past 6 months or so, something to do with a little content drought, I'd have thought, it was obvious to anyone that it wouldn't last. WoD comes along, bam, 4k queue... add in lowered cap, and it's a 6k+ queue.
I logged on 4 hours ago (at a time of day which normally isn't queued at all, even in past patches when I thought it was bad), I'm still at over 1k to go in the queue. Jeez! My one hope, is that this means the lag and dcs have reduced, as if it was unplayable, people would be getting sick of it and logging off faster, so the queue would move faster... that might be wishful thinking though
