Noob Question about a .exe file w/Census Upoad

Post by Roland44 »

Hello All,

I'm new, but I thought the WoWCensus idea was a great one and I decided to help contribute some info last night. I DL the UI and did a scan in IF. Came back to the site to upload/submit the data, pointed everything to the right place and began the upload.

I run McAfee Firewall and I got a popup about an .exe file trying to connect to the internet. The name was "Ksurlbva.exe"

Now I know that I was try to send data, I just wasn't sure why a new .exe was needed. I blocked the access and closed the site window. I just wanted to run it past you guys and see if that indeed was a legit part of the Census Submission process.

With Blizzard's warning about .exe programs I just wanted to be safe :)

Thanks for for any clarification about this :)

Regards,

No, you should not get any exe's attempting to run when you access the site or upload data. If you are seeing that, I would update my virus scanner and do a scan immediately.

I also can't find any info about the exe you mention, so I would be very cautious about it.

Thanks Rollie,

Yea I did a google and ask.com search for that .exe and came up empty as well :(

I'll run a complete scan with my 4 diff programs (2 virus, 2 spyware) and see if anything hits.

I'll keep you posted :)

Thanks!

I did some research for you. Here are the results:

bva.exe = barcode vocalization application

This is used to access .wav files on your computer. So maybe you have a mp3 player in the background running or something like that.

It isn't a virus, or trojan

Ksurl= The location on your computer that points to the bva.exe file.

I hope this helps.
