Whats next after WOW?
CS:Source is mindblowing and great. i dont think people just play it for GRAPHICS.its got great gameplay! i love to pvp there. i think WoW is getting pretty boring(too much playing?), and the expansion coming out just to grind 10 more levels doesn't sound like much fun thats why im trying Eve just to expand my gaming horizon...

Eve player here.... You will enjoy Eve.
I played Eve before playing WOW. The issues I ran into after playing Eve for a year (piloted Amarr interceptors and battleships) were that it would take about 39 days to train some of the skills while new skills were being introduced. As fun as Eve is... the training (leveling) in Eve is a love/hate relationship. Being able to train while not even being logged into the game is a huge plus. The downside is the amount of skills available and sticking to a path.... it's tough and can get depressing. The other part I didn't care for was that you couldn't train an alt while training a primary. But those are my gripes and they are mine alone
Aside from this, I love the idea of piloting spaceships and exploring space. Eve is HUGE! Once you get in and explore the 3d map, you WILL be impressed. There is so much to explore and do.
Why did I switch to WOW??
I needed a change of pace... WOW is fantasy based, Eve is sci-fi. These two games are so different that you should be able to enjoy them both without conflict.
I will switch between these two games for change of pace. When the expansion comes out for WOW... I'll be there.... When Eve has an expansion.... I'll be there.
... Just sharing... and good luck!

Maybe it's a noob thing so maybe you can help out. I've played a bit, but the one thing I can't get past is the travel times. I tried following some of the storyline missions/quests and all I get are Fed Ex missions that require 15 mins travel time each way.
So I set my destination, click autopilot and then afk for 15 - 20 mins. Where's the action? And is the travel time always an issue?

I showed the game to a co-worker friend of mine and that was the sticking point with him as well. The only trouble I have with travel time is when attempting to find trade routes.
You can help your travel time by creating insta-jump routes to places frequently traveled, but these become obsolete after a while. Basically, create waypoints to the system you are headed to... warp from the starting gate to within 15k of the insta-jump mark created (which should be 15k "passed" the gate from the direction you are coming from), and jump. Repeat when you are in the new system.
Also, I wouldn't suggest going "afk" while warping lol.... you could find yourself in the middle of a warp disruption field and screwed
If you want more action... go to .4 and lower, or get involved in a war. Actually wars in .5 and up to .7 should be much more interesting when Red Moon Rising comes out. This is when player owned structures are supposed to be allowed to be placed in this space.
As for the missions... this is a gripe I've always had with Eve... from R&D to regular Security missions. They seem to "pick them from a hat"... you could get the mission you just got (which makes absolutely zero sense from a storyline/RP perspective).
(WARNING!! veering off!!...)
And while I'm mentioning R&D, HUGE gripe for me... I performed R&D missions for an agent for over 13 months.... ZERO breakthroughs and ZERO incentive to even continue with R&D. This is sad and they really need to rethink this, but they continue to put it off... and put it off... and put it off...
Eve focuses on PVP more than any other MMO I've played. That will continue to be their focus. If you are interested in production, be prepared for investing a LOT of time... yes, you can make a ton of Tech1 stuff. These BPO's are all over the place. As for the stuff that can actually turn more of a profit, you need to shell out a TON of ISK to get Battleship BPO's or wait for 2 years or longer to win the R&D lottery (much like a real life lottery
)
Sorry I added some negative points to this, but I'm in a mood lol (and yes the DuilleNLI is me too
)

You can PVP at anytime.
If you are in 1.0, and fire upon a player, be prepared to be killed by the cops or sentry guns almost immediately
Response times, turret range, goes down as the security level goes down. In .4, gate sentry turrets will still fire on aggressors, but stations won't (I believe that to be correct). Pay attention though, as security goes down, the number of sentry guns go down as well.
As far as being effective. You would need to be in a group to be most effective. You could even help in a frigate, but you might not remain alive too long. I'm not able to give you a real definitive answer on WHEN you could start to become effective. It depends on what you have equipped as opposed to what your opponent is packing. If you're ship is equipped with debuffing eqiupment against minmatar sensors and you run up against an amarr ship, you're not gonna be as effective.
Eve is designed to be open. You choose your path... you could major in lasers, minor in mining. You could major in missiles, minor in projectiles. The best advice I could give you is to take a look at the equipment you would think to be useful and train for it. One good thing though, if you chose Amarr and find that Minmatar tras...err... ships should be your thing... grab the books, train to fly them and shoot projectiles/missiles.
Also, if you head to .4 and lower... be PREPARED to PVP
(This might mean having some people/corpmates protecting you, not necessarily being a one-man band). You might be able to operate successfully for 3-4 days/nights mining, pirate hunting, etc. etc. But when you least expect it, player pirates will come out of nowhere in some fear-inspiring ship (Raven
), web you and demand you pay a ransom for them to free you. Happened to me after playing for 3 weeks, but we got away without paying a ransom

See, during my 14 day trial period (of which I played maybe 5 times), I didn't see anything like this. All I saw was in-transit, watching my ship fly from system to system, dock, grab something, un-dock and just fly right back again.
Maybe I missed something along the line, but there wasn't much to all I saw =/

not really, i think its great. EVE's free 14 day game trial let me decide to continue playing or not, to do the tutorial is essential to the game,as build my own character and learn the organization etc. i do like the graphics of Eve, really awesome. even the controls are cool.i think the game is basically for gamers who want more intensity gaming, and youll gonna get it once you get pass the basics.

This Eve game sounds pretty damned fun. I played a game like it, I can't quite remember what it was called though.. You could play online, it was free, and it was crazy fun. A friend of mine got me hooked on MMO's through that game.. I know that the last part of the name was Gold. Battle-something something Gold, perhaps? Bah, I can't remember.. But you could play online or in single player (I had this bad habit of pressing the "exit ship" button, much the same as I push the windows key often while playing WoW >.O). It was fun... If this Eve is anything like how it sounds, I'll fall in love with it, and WoW will have some competition.

When I first checked out Eve, I didn't think I would like it. After reading some of the ways that other people were playing the game, you begin to understand that Eve is whatever you make it out to be.Rollie wrote:See, during my 14 day trial period (of which I played maybe 5 times), I didn't see anything like this.
