Actually, there is something we ALL can do. Namely, prune / purge more often.
Pencey, you misunderstood several points I was trying to make, but I am not going to debate them further. We have different views on certains things, I am going to accept that and simply move on, doing what I am good at, providing new, fresh data.
Oh, and don't upload every day for any realm.. It's probably quite a bit more efficient to upload every second day (or less), since if you upload a realm daily, you'll just be reporting a lot of the same characters again at the same level, causing extra work for the database. I'd image that reporting every 2nd day, you'd get about 80% as many updates as if you'd uploaded every day, but save a lot of database access time. (i think someone said this before, but I didn't understand the point at the time)
Plus, uploading every other day, you'll still be providing just as much population total data because the file format records that for every census you take (that's what those lines like ["2010-12-04&0:39:00"] = "193&130&141&115&74&95&97&83&191&91&35&17&11" are doing, recording the totals for each race and class (13 numbers = 5 races, 8 classes)
If you are worried someone else will get credit for certain characters.. then maybe that realm doesn't need your effort..
(edit: if your file reaches the 10mb limit easily then maybe this isn't doable.. but anyway i'll be cutting back my frequency of submission in addition to purging before each one.. because honestly i don't care if player x was level y on day z.. I'm more interested in the population levels, which are actually not database-intensive to track)
