Whats the best way to pwn a mage?

Post by Guest »

I will be the first to admit that i SUCK at pvp....but im trying to get better.

I am a warrior...and i have the most problems when pvping a mage. All they have to do is freeze me to the ground, and im a sitting duck!....can anyone spare some tips?

Be a rogue. The insignia of the horde for a rogue dispels polymorph. Hooray. Plus, you can vanish out of Front Nova with no problem.. Only problem is they can cast arcane explosion (Rank 1) for next to no mana, and STILL bring you out of stealth.. But once you catch them, it's on.

So be a rogue =P

Or get better with your ranged weapon... =)

Think of it this way. The longer your target is alive, the more damage it can do to you. The spec against mages is Berserker, with a dual wield of decent weapons (I'd suggest Dimensional Blade of the [insert animal here] because it has a fast attack speed.) and lay the smack down on that cloth werain' suckuh. Close the distance as fast as possible. Other then that, I really have no other advice for you.

Yarr, I hate that too. I charge, hamstring, rend, demoralizing shout. That right there slow ems down and their attacks are slow. Of course getting maybe a ice reistance enchant will help. Apart from that, go 1h & sheild and just take em down slowly if you have to go with ranged attack. Dont let them run circles around you, run circles around THEM. At 20% bloodrage switch to 2h weapon and execute the bugger

Hybuir, armor doesn't make a difference against magic attacks unless it has resistance.. So have a shield really is pointless against casters =/

Actually, you should load up on Resist to take a Mage.

About 60 Frost should make almost all his Frost spells completely resisted, due to the binary spell code... (same reason Frost doesn't receive bonus damage from Curse of Elements...).

Probably before the Frost, get some Fire Resist, as you need it for many of the upper tier instances (ok, get a lot :)). Having both of these can effectively negate most Mages.

BTW, ignore Vek. His class is on ez mode. :P

And ignore Hybuir for PvPing with a shield. :P

Yeah.. I have it easy.. But at least not as easy as a Pally ;P

Frost/fire resistance totems.. Puts my resistance to both at about 70. Hooray =)

Hey I'm not going into the BG with a shield, I'm just here doing my thing, trying to lvl up and all of a sudden they jump me. Most of the times I'm solo, so if I can't get the charge in first, then I go on the defensive till I get a hamstring or a stun in. Of course I'm a stance dancer and a weapon swapper so, yeah :-P boo too them

personaly i think easiest way to pwn a mage is be a pally :D (retribution) run up and hit repentance.. judge command and attack. wait for blink then hammer of justice seal of command crusader strike and judge. put up command again and auto attack until crusader strike is back up.. repeat til pwned

Frost Nova + R1 Frostbolt > Paladins. Or just FN -> Poly.

Mages usually save the Blink for an HoJ, unless we're stupid. Which most aren't that stupid.

What I like most about your post is that you actually have the words "wait" in your attack sequence.

well skyfire, obviously u know what i mean when i say wait.. lol i mean keep hitting til they blink.. if they dont blink then waste HoJ :D but mages dont normally have to much hp to take dmg with so as soon as i get past the mana shield or ice barrier i basicly am unstoppable with blessing of freedom and insignia of the alliance.. if they like to chain sheep ill just be cheap and bubble :D 8)

BTW sigs should update more ogeten

Question: from what I've seen with Mages...the first attack is being sheeped ...have any of you built up your arcane resistance to see if you can resist being sheeped?

To answer the question from the OP as a priest I use fear and then mana drain em...my SWP and holy nova do the rest.

You are welcome to stack some arcane resistance, but I doubt it will help you; you'll be sacrificing hp/mana/dmg/healing to pick it up. And most PvP mages carry about -20 to -50 resistance (talents + items), so it probably wouldn't help you in the long run. :)
