I've come across females playing male chars, most of them hardcore gamers that got fed up with guys assuming they couldn't play because they were girls/women. A lot more common for men to do the chick thing though, I think most do it both for eye candy and possibly getting free stuff. Most of my toons are male but I have a few female toons too, I would guess that this will get a lot more common as gfx get even better and we start seeing more adult oriented games.
I think I read somewhere that men are more into visual stimuli than women and also that men mostly look at women when taking in appearances but women look at both women and men?

maybe that's part of it but in all honesty I find men rather unintersting to look at, especially compared to women
Is she by any chance rather tired of men assuming she can't play if she admits to being female, or maybe just tired of all the male adolescents (regardless of age...) trying to hit on her if she admits to being female? I know one female gamers playing female chars that always post a fake RL pic on the boards showing a rather plain woman in her 50's, she's actually a very good looking woman that's around 25 or so by now...

Female playing a male character here (well, my primary alts are female, but they're all WAY below the level of my main) As for why, not sure tbh, it just seemed to suit the character's role better, and I'm really not bothered what gender I play, just want it to fit the character. Or not, in the case of my cutesy female pink-haired gnome... warrior

My coworker would rather stare at a female for hours on end but he's alittle...umm...too good at the part so I ckinda wonder if there's other reasons...

Male, but playing Female characters.
As to why... It started with the "I'd rather stare at..."-thing; Then it was because I found the typical male character model to be way to big. I usually play some kind of caster, and I don't really envision them as the huge muscled type. The female models are usually more lithe and more "appropriate". Now, I do it most out of habit (even though some of the previous points still apply). My first WoW character was female, and so was my second.
Don't remember ever being offered free loot or anything like that. WoW is my first "serious" MMORPG, though, and I'm assuming it's fairly common knowledge, now, that most female character are played by male players. Or maybe it's just my server... who knows?
Also been hit on once, during a instance run, in a way that in real life whould result in some kind of slap or kick in the nuts. Damn, us guys can be creepy/sleeazy. Certainly an interesting experience though.

Male playing Female Priest.
Similar to Katheen it started as me rather starting at a nice looking avatar. But as I got more into WoW, I quickly learned that it seemed that I would get offered more party request, and was generally treated nicer as a female toon. Also it is kind of fun playing on the "maiden in distress" card when I need to. Plus I get all kinds of stuff given to me that my male toons wouldn't. LOL.
Mainly now though it is purely for the roleplaying factor.

Vek = 17 year old dude. Hee hee.
Personally, I've only got 1 female character on Lightbringer, and I don't play her anymore. Male humans are just too damn bulky looking for a mage. Blah.
Anyways, I play all male characters now. Undead rogues are pretty lithe, so I can stand them. I have a troll shaman... Also male.
Why?
Because while females get perks (I started a human warrior and after only a few minutes had aquired 10g, courtesy of a crazy BWL equipped night elf, along with a walkthrough through Deadmines.)
Anyways, I really don't find WoW's graphics too... Tantalizing. And I'm 17, haha. If you want to go stare at some digital cleavage, buy Lineage 2 and play an elf. Not that I would know.

I'm a male, and all my toons have always been male. My male flatmate on the other hand only ever plays female toons.
Not sure why this is, I guess he wants a 'hawt' character to look at.

As my first main character, I spent a lot of time picking out the perfect look. He happened to be male, as he was fitting the personality I chose for him, which was something along the lines of Power and Professionalism, clean cut kills(Rogue). For my priest, I just hit random, and I really wish I could change that back. She looks so ugly >< . For my warlock, I chose a female to make it seem like a fragile target, but it's awesome when I have 50%+ damage reduction through my pet. =P

LoL, I noticed the same thing.neuronomad wrote:Male playing Female Priest.

RL: female - my main is also female (because I wanted a toon that kinda looked like me), but when I rolled Horde I went male because the females on the Horde side are all ugly and have stupid dances. I love the male orc dance - too cute. And I like looking a little more intimidating in battle.
Odd, though... I never once got a single thing free while using my female toon. I've heard it happens, but it sure as heck never happened to me.
