Succumbed to the dark side

Post by Rollie »

No, no, I haven?t sold the site?

But, I have been enticed to get back into the gaming industry. I said I would never go back, but I?ve been presented with an opportunity I just can?t pass up. I?m not going to say where I?m going, or what I?ll be working on, but I can say it is both an exciting and scary step at the same time.

My only reason for having left the games industry in the first place was the piss poor way that development studios were run. Unrealistic deadlines and unrealistic expectations, coupled with corporate BS coming from execs and marketing all drove me away. And looking at the state of the industry, there just plain wasn?t anyone out there doing anything to fix it.

And now this opportunity has arisen. A successful entrepreneur from the business industry comes along and wants to make compelling, innovative, and unique games. Not the same old canned crap coming from everywhere else. In addition to making great games, he wants the company to be run ?right?. Not a vampire studio of the industry today. He has put together a strong, drama free team of like minded individuals. And obviously, he has also offered me a nice position in that company.

Will it work? I don?t know. I have to admit that I am still a bit skeptical. But the chance that it CAN work? that is the draw. I have already seen what is laid out and the rules and expectations that have been put in place. And it looks doable. It is exciting! To be able to get back into doing what I really love, for a studio that endeavors to be run as a long term business that cares for it?s employees, that is an amazing thing!

So wish me luck! I won?t be starting for a few weeks yet as I refuse to leave my current team in a lurch, but it will be here soon.

I wish I could tell you more about the game and such, as I?m sure that?s what most of you would be the most curious about, and I?m sorry I can?t say more. Look for more info about the game, this time next year!

Everyone deserves a chance to do what they love

And I'm glad you haven't sold warcraftrealms... now that would be sad times.

Sounds nice but that can never happen. One you can never have a drama free team/work place. Just isn't possible, somehow someway it's always there.

I actually will disagree with you there. I have been very lucky in that everywhere I have worked thus far has been free from team level drama. Even though I haven't always had jobs that were the best in the world, I've been pretty lucky in the folks I've had to work with.
