Thanks for the link! I'm not really surprised though. It was only a matter of time before others started trying to offer those stats.

Hehe, Uther has maybe one Alliance submission and no Horde submissions yet. I would probably submit data just on principle, but I'm already bogging down my system with
WowHead Looter, Allakhazam
WoWreader,
Thottbot, and, of course, CensusPlus.

The news post:

Its really buggy thats for sure. In the list for Silvermoon there are guilds listed which are not even on Silvermoon! I still prefer the style here on WCR.
And whats with the slowness today?

The slowness today is due to a slew of servers being offline for hardware upgrades. Servers down = more people surfing = higher server load =x

Was wondering myself about the slowness thing, but that makes sense.
As far as the census site goes, I prefer the style here as well - it's just cleaner. I was wondering why other sites hadn't really started collecting data like this, since it's definitely pretty helpful. Oh well, guess we'll see how they do

The WoW Forums were down for most of the day yesterday so think about how many trolls were not getting their daily dose of forums...That's probably why this place was so busy

I wish them luck trying to get enough data from the various servers, running two different census mods is not likely to happen... The expansion should bring more activity so it might help them but it will be an uphill struggle for sure.
While I agree with them about gold selling the simple fact is that WoW was a lost cause from the start with Thottbot owned and operated by the most well known gold seller out there being the primary source of game info already since early beta.

On the subject of the gold selling stuff, and in relation to WR and the ads, let me pose this question.
Would you prefer less advertising WITH gold selling ads, or more advertising WITHOUT the gold selling ads.
Obviously we'd all prefer zero advertising, but hey, you know how that goes =)

For me more ads without gold selling/cheat ads, ads may be annoying in general but at least most are in the "mostly harmless" category

yeah, I agree with Alanthus... a few more ads wouldn't kill me, especially if they aren't gold selling/cheat ones

I think I'd rather take the fewer adds.
Don't click on them if they don't suit you. ^^

More ads without goldselling would be my preference (yes before you say it Rollie, I know I don't see ads at all, but tbh I wouldn't even mind seeing a few if it got rid of the goldselling ones)
I'm just not a fan of the goldselling business, particularly the number of bots it's spawned - my main never came across them but I've recently levelled an alt to 60 and ouch it's so damn hard to complete some quests when there's bots killing all the mobs before you can reach them
As for the other site, they'll be lucky to get enough data - this one's pretty wellknown by now so
should have a reasonable number of censusers, yet look at the European most wanted list: ALL in single figures, on Horde there's none above 6. And I just looked over the European realms as a whole and found that all 30+ of the servers I have throwaway census characters on are still in the red themselves (despite none of them being on the most wanted list) and there's a lot more red than green on the overall list. If I had the money to spare I'd make a 2nd account and just leave my laptop logged in on that censusing extra servers all the time

Thanks for the thoughts. I may try a test run here shortly and just see what kind of impact it will make to remove the gold selling ones.

Sorry, free wrsigs get disabled when the server is under heavy load. This is soon to be remedied though as I have a new server I'm bringing online to take over delivery of all sigs.

The gold selling ads don't really bother me at all. I think the adsense you have on your site is fine. It is just related content to the site and with WoW.
The image gold selling ads are a little annoying but if it helps to pay your bills I understand completely.
People are going to be buying gold regardless if WCR has an ad on it or not. I am sure those ads do make you a decent amount of money each month and lets face it. Gold is a huge market to walk away from in my opinion.
I also wanted to add that I thought you have an option to donate $15 to get rid of the ads? If the ads really bother you that badly, just help Rollie pay for the costs of the site with your donation. In turn of some money(which is really what everything comes down to) the ads disappear if I am not mistaken.

Yes, there is the option to make a donation and I'll put you on The List(tm) to have all advertising removed. And I don't really even enforce any kind of minimum. Not a bad deal for no advertising for life =)
Another little tidbit if any of you don't log into the site while you're browsing char data and such, people who are logged in as registered users should never see the interstitial ads either.

Ooooo.... That's a nice tidbit indeed.
T-0. We have impact! Skyfire has just hit Hybuir's post count!

Yet another reason to stay logged in all the time.
And grats Skyfire
