TBC pushed until January, Disappointed or Relieved?

Post by Rollie »

So it's been officialy stated that TBC has been pushed until January. Of course for those on the outside looking in, we're probably a bit disappointed, but for those I talk to in the beta, they are quite relieved as there was still a lot of broken and unfinished content.

What about you? Sad or glad?

Better that they get it done but they really need to get their development process under better control, developing an expansion that is for all intents and purposes "more of the same" with a few bells and whistles should really be a more controlled process... especially with the resources they have at their disposal...

Disappointed as I want to be able to play it for real, but yes, there are quite a few glitches that need time to fix, so it's a good move I think. Certainly releasing it in November to catch the christmas market would've ended up in disaster, and any later than that would be a difficult time to distribute it with the christmas chaos, so best to wait. Still disappointed though, I want my draenei priest :(

Dissappointed :(

But based on how buggy the Beta is... I can see why they would push it back.

But its not like we will have to download a big content patch come release time. Since devlopment will be on going while the product is being packaged and shipped worldwide. So eventhough you got a nice new game in your hands, you still got sometime to download the content patch :(

I am very disappointed to be honest. These past few months I have just been hanging on to the idea of TBC coming out. I may be cancelling for a few months and then come back when it is out. I haven't totally decided though because I can't leave my guild up in the air like that.

No matter how long Blizzard takes to make the expansion, we should all know that the first week is going to be hell with DCs, server queues, and probably a ton of 132 errors no one will know how to fix.

From a business standpoint, I think this is bad news for Blizzard. With all the new console systems coming out this christmas a parent would be more willing to spend just $40 on TBC rather than $500 on PS3 or Wii. These parents also have to buy really expensive games for those systems as well. Let's be honest, but January is THE worst time for any retail store. People finally get the credit card bills in the mail from the holidays and they surely aren't going to add another $40 to that for TBC. I have worked in retail for many years, January and February I would get 5 hours a week when I would normally get 35 hours a week. I am still blown away that Blizzard changed the date from a business stand point. Really, blown away!

This is my first game from Blizzard but I have heard that they are known to push dates back time and time again. Some people are even saying that it won't be out in January. If that happens, Blizzard has failed big time. They will have to release a small patch to keep people's interest during that time.

They will release a content patch, details in the next couple of days according to blue post.

They haven't said it will be released in january, the planned release date is january which knowing Blizzard is late january or later.

MMO players is a captive audience, they might well make just as much money off a january release as a november one since there is still no direct competition out there.

I for one am relieved it's been pushed back, but mostly because it'll give my guild a reason to keep raiding the current instances :) We downed skeram in AQ40 a little while ago and so it'll be nice to keep progressing for the time being. A lot of the AQ40 fights look to be pretty cool.

Also, I'm not so sure about the new hunter trees - it looks like the days of being a hybrid between trees are numbered. Not that it's still not possible, but I'll just have to play to figure it out... almost like partially relearning the class, and that's not so much fun :P

I'd been saying for weeks on my guild forums that it was going to be pushed back - if there's one thing you can count on blizzard for, delays are it. But, better to get as many bugs out beforehand as possible. If nothing else, I guess it will save the people who quit til BC comes out a few more monthly payments ;)

I'm actually relieved, since I plan on also suspending my account temporarily. Trolling the WoW forums is too addicting, and has been interfering with my homework.

Also, don't be hating on Blizzard! They've gotten better, considering this is their first MMO (not their first RPG though). They've also spawned several excellent RTSs, so if you're ever unhappy with WoW for a time, go play some TFT/SC/Diablo. You'll come back looking forward to the game. :D

I've actually been a fan of the Warcraft series since it came out - I've played and beaten them all :) I tried Starcraft but couldn't get that into it, and I've never really played Diablo much. Usually when I need a break from WoW I'll just play good old school console RPGs, so I'm not too worried.

Also, I can't troll the warcraft forums; there's just too much negativity for my taste. :P

I'm really looking forward to the expansion, but I would rather have something polished than have something soon. For as long as I have been playing WoW, there is still a lot I haven't seen and a lot I want to do.

So, I was a little disappointed, but I'm sure it's for the best. I doubt they would miss the holiday sales unless it was absolutely necessary.

Not as of yet, but there definately will be before release. One thing I need right now are the icons for TBC, namely for the new classes =)

Not sure if any of you troll the WoW boards, but there will be a content patch before the expansion. hehe I knew they would have to do that. It will include the new talents and the new class abilities, as well as the new honor system.

Let me dig a little and try to find the blue post on it.

That post will give you more info on it. Everyone will get a free talent respec as well.

I would much rather see them wait and get BC polished up. From past experience with Blizzard games, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't arrive in January.

They used to just tell people that updates would be out when they are ready, and previous games used to be of the highest quality compared to other vendors.

I would hate to see this change with WOW.

Does anybody have a good source of the changes that they have noticed? I have seen lots of screenshots and such, but I'm looking more for data. I saw a screenshot that appears to show bank slots increasing to 28 and a 7th bag slot, where the slot only cost 25g.

Can someone verify if they made changes to the pricing on the slots? I really don't want to pay 100g for that last slot if they are gonna drop the prices in BC...:)

I believe I also read that quest logs will increase to 25 from 20. Even though some of these changes appear minor, they are something else to look forward to. I'm always juggling quests around since my log always seems to be full. Another 5 spots would be nice.
