lvl 38 in outland

Yesterday in Thrallmar I saw a lvl 38 player running around the outpost. Seems that warlocks can summon players to outland who are below the required lvl 58. This will probably be disabled with the next patch.

Mage portals also work, my lvl 47 was grouped with a lvl 70 mage friend briefly and as he was going back to Shattrath I asked him to make a portal to see if I could go through... I could :)

Yeah, I saw a level 1 in Shattrath last night. Thought they had blocked everyone <58, but I guess not.

My bank alt got a summon there and set his hearthstone there. I wandered right back to Azeroth, but now my bank character can easily travel to do trades. Yay!

You can get summoned or ask a mage to port you there. You can't directly enter it through the Dark Portal if your under 58

Wasn't the point of adding the lvl 58 requirement to the dark portal to keep those under 58 from traveling there in the first place? Do you think they will make it so portals and summons will fail if a character is below 58 while in outland?

I got my level 1 summoned to Shattrath, set my hearth there, and now I have a bank character that can readily travel the world.

But.... is it safe?? Can I be warned or banned for such?

It seems that, rather than figure out how to fix this loophole, Blizz decreed:
For clarification and for future reference: as it currently stands, players level 57 or below can be legitimately summoned beyond Azeroth's borders; if their presence in Outlands was accomplished by means of a warlock summoning spell, this is considered to be working appropriately. The level restriction, however, still applies for the Dark Portal.
... Working as intended. It's not a bug, it's a feature. We swear.

Well, there's a master enchanter in Shattrah, which saves them having to do an Uldaman run I suppose :P

So, I have a question...

Can someone without the expansion be summoned? o.0

No - you have to have the expansion. None of hte Outland graphics, landscapes, mobs, maps, etc. exist in the default client install - you'd probably crash pretty good even if you did get through the summon.

It would prob just be like how it was when you tried to enter through the dark portal, or the other places like the starting zones and caverns of times, before the xpac came out and it told you that you must install the xpac before you enter.

Yeah, guess who discovered that after getting a friend to take me through Uldaman... said friend being a mage who portalled us both to Shattrath after the run ;) At least I'm hearthed there now, I'm not going to Uldaman again! :P

I've summoned friends alts to outland without any problems. This is nice for skinners, herbalists, and miners who have hit the 300 cap, and as other have said, very nice for enchanters.

I also tried summoning one of friends who was too cheap to buy the expansion. He got a dialog box asking if he would accept, so he clicked "yes", and then got an error message saying something to the effect that the action was not allowed.

What if you get the BC installation disks from a friend, not upgrade your account, adn try to get summoned? Technically everything should load.

the lvl limit was to keep low lvl's questing in Badlands out of the high lvl area, so they can't "accidenty" walk into high lvl mobs ^^

Yup its the same for most 50+ instances I think. I know the instances in Caverns of Time have a lvl limit on it (as well as the quests that you need to get). Same with Kharazan (or however its spelt) in Deadwind Pass. I went there before BC came out and it said you need to be 68 at least to enter =(

But nothing is stopping a <20 Blood Elf from entering Western Plaguelands tho! You get an npc telling you to get lost but thats it.

I'm guessing your account still needs to be "flagged" as having the expansion to enter Outland.

I wonder what happens if its the other way around, if your account is flagged but you dont have TBC installed o.O
