While I did expect population boom for horde...

Post by Cassey »

I didn't expect this: http://www.warcraftrealms.com/census.php?serverid=782

Out of the 35 servers released in January the ratio is 1:1.1. While that is done wrong, it gives a startling change from what we used to see. It'll be interesting to see how the old servers balance out in a few months time. 6 out of the 9 pvp servers released have a a:h ratio of atleast 1:2.

I'd hate to be playing alliance on any of those servers right now. I wonder what Blizz will do if that ratio stays like that?

Those new servers I expected to be completely out of balance because if someone chose to leave their mains and roll a new character it was probably going to be a BE. Not a lot of people even like the draenei, but I actually like them more than I thought I would.

Blizzard won't be doing anything to those servers. Probably about a third of those people will get bored on the new server and leave. That is why you always want to stay away from new servers. Some people have a chronic rerolling problem, so you think you have a nice steady population, but they just leave to go to another server.

PVP servers always balance themselves out in the end. Some will quit because of the Horde, then some Horde will quit because there are too many of them. Usually it will be anywhere from 1.3:1 or even lower either for Alliance or Horde.

I resemble that remark!

It really is true. Many new servers are packed with people, but if you come back 4 months later, they are usually pretty dead. And then, the free realm transfers start up.

Those who cry for new servers seem to push Blizzard around. Hopefully with the raised realm caps, we can go for a while without opening any more.

I'm not sure if that's true. More people are buying the game all the time, while people are constantly asking for new servers. (Or were, before it became a bannable offense on the official forums.) New servers can seem to appear after a rush of requests, but it's like standing outside with your mouth open because you're thirsty: eventually it's gonna rain, whether you're standing there or not.

Thank you for your posts :)

The thing is, though, new servers seemed to be pritty well balanced before the expansion. Yes, you'll get the chronic rerollers (I'd classify them as people who have like 30+ characters, most below 35) but you'd also get those who want a fresh start with an alt. After a few months they balance out the server.

The same thing will probably happen, just be an uphill battle. The alliance side will always be weak, but between new players not knowing how imbalanced the sides are will roll there, as well as the horde players will grow tired of how overpopulated their zones are and leave for greener pastures. This could take months, or even a year, to happen. And even then, the final ratio will probably still be favouring the horde.

I'm glad to see more horde on the servers. For a lot of older servers it's helped to even balance them out a bit more. Many of the newer servers definitely are horde heavy at the moment, but if nothing else it will just further balance out the battlegroup. Since most pve servers are traditionally more alliance heavy, the horde heavy pvp servers will probably help make it even. If nothing else, it'll give people who want to play alliance but who like to play the underdog another place to play (besides Mal'ganis :P )

Horde dealt with being outnumbered for a really long time on many servers, so it's nice that some alliance get to deal with it now :P I guess we'll see how the new servers end up once the chronic rerollers leave for greener pastures and such.

It's a very welcome change, that's for sure. I do hope it stays that way and even balances it further. Too bad we don't have historical data for months back to compare how it's changed.

Oh, don't worry, I sometimes hate playing Horde on Argent Dawn (Europe), especially since BC was out and a godzillion Alliance keep farming my quest mobs :P

On a side note, we do have a lot of BEs (and a lot of succub... I mean, Draenei  ) and we might have had a minimal increase in Horde population. We surely have had a great increase in the number of lazy lowbies asking 60+'s to boost them through this and that :|

Because it is broken down by week, and sometimes a month will show up with more than 4 weeks =)

Yeah, I meant resemble.

I have 5 characters that have reached 40.
I have a total of 13 characters that have reached level 20.
I have around 25-26 characters that have reached level 10.

ps. Rollie, it would be helpful if the server was listed for each character on the user profile pages. When I look at my page, there are honestly characters listed that I can't remember which server is their home.

Isn't December represented by twice as many tick marks as other months, then?

I understand his statement to mean that the tick marks are each one week, and labels are placed under every fourth tick mark. So, there should be approximately one label per one month, but labels will eventually outnumber months. When that happens, you'll see two labels in the same month.
