I can't wait.
If Blizzard knows anything about how to program a video game, it knows how to make an RTS.

We'll see how it pans out. WC3 was okay, but then again, I just haven't been blown away by any RTS since the Total Annihilation day.

I was a huge fan of the warcraft RTS series since the first one. It's actually what got me into WoW. I think the most fun part was definitely LAN parties with my friends, haha. I never got too into starcraft though, mostly because sci-fi isn't my thing.

Wrong.
The original Starcraft developers knew what they were doing. The current developers are more about copying and polishing with a number attached at the end of the title.
SC2 will be a solid game, no doubt, but don't expect some grand experience.
The RTS space is pretty cluttered atm, and that is where I am hoping SC2 prevails... bringing some old school RTS gamers back into the genre.

How so?
Wouldn't the current devs be the same ones which worked on War3, as SC2 was begun just as War3 got launched. Even if the lore wasn't perfect with wc3, it was still a far better game than war2, and even better than sc1.
