Ok. So I finally have grinded my new char to 60, and was excited about getting to the BC side finally. OMG its the same old game...same graphics, same landscape, same buildings, same mobs with different names. I really thought it would be like a whole new world but Hellfire Peninsula is a cross between Durotar, and Blasted Lands.
The only good point is the xp is much nicer, and actually the first few quests gave me some pretty nice gear for rewards. I about fell over when I actually saw int/sta/spi gear, and very nice stats for greens.
BC is /yawn

Zangarmarsh, the next zone, has a different landscape - giant mushrooms! And the mobs there are different too. However, Terokkar Forest isn't that unique in look, and all those giant moths really get in your face. Nagrand is one of the prettiest zones in the game, perhaps a little like Arathi in looks but I loved the little islands floating in the sky and OMG Clefthoofs! I love those giant bumbling beasts.
After that, Blade's Edge Mountains is a mishmash of terrains with some unique elements like giant spikes that apparently impale dragons on a frequent basis. Shadowmoon Valley is dark and depressing and full of demons and ghosts, but Netherstorm - well, that's worth seeing if only for the giant ECO-DOMES!
Shattrath City is nothing special architecturally, but it will kill your low-end graphics card with all the NPC troop manoeuvres that go on there all the time. What were they thinking...
As you found, the quest rewards have been nicely targeted to upgrading your old level 55-60 gear, even the blue stuff. The green drops in Outlands have a good variety of three-stat bonuses including +spell damage, +mana regen, +healing, +attack power etc.
If you're already 60 and not enjoying Hellfire Peninsula, it's quite feasible to skip it and go straight to Zangarmarsh. You might prefer the fungi...
