New Server Updates?

Is there any news or rumors of new servers being released in January of 2008?

No news yet. Blizzard doesn't release information about upcoming new realms, they just release it.
The latest realm to be released is: Caelestrasz - US. Which was released a few weeks ago. First new US realm since the January new realm blitz.

Do not see Blizzard adding many new realms since they are not needed. The population on a lot of server is very low. If anything blizzard needs to offer free moves to the dead servers. Or the evil idea combine them.
Now that is for US servers I do not know much about the EU servers usage.

yep we've heard that argument time and time again. They did have a server merge earlier. the official post here

EU will have some server changes when the russian localization goes live I expect, possibly free transfers off unofficial russian servers to russian speaking ones and then some kind of consolidation of remaining players etc.

They merged 2 battlegroups. They never merged realms yet. They did merge 2 realms in the burning crusade beta test.

That sounds like a nice idea for the Russian speaking players. Localizations are one thing Blizzard has done very good.

I don't see this server listed on available realms when I log into the game. Are you sure it is US?

Weren't the two battlegroup they merged a BG with 5 realms, and another with 8? That put them at about the same size as the other battlegroups.
Yea it was something like this. My guess is that Blizzard thought they were going to be releasing new realms in the future but instead noticed their decline in subscriptions so they acted as fast as possible before people in those battlegroups quit.
