Statistics based on Armory data

Hi there,

I wonder if there are any other sites out there like the one from Okoloth (http://okoloth.blogspot.com/) or if WarcraftRealms is thinking about gathering data through the Armory.

Thanks in advance

I do have plans to do some armory mining. Just don't know when it'll happen!

Bump...!

Hello, I just happened across Okoloth's data (not updated since Nov of last year)... it seems to me that this type of data mining could be used to create a "perfect" census where no active characters are missed, and also provide other interesting statistics such as professions, talents, etc. WR is the premiere site for WoW census data... what can we do to implement armory mining right here??

Thanks, and I'm really enjoying the site and contributing as much census data as I can. :D

thing is that it takes TONs of information, he mentioned GIGs of mining to take one snapshot of everyone that was guilded or in an arena team. This wouldn't provide an accurate timeline of the character as is the case nowadays, or quickly report any guild changes. it has its pros and cons.

Also finding unguilded people on Armory is hard, plus it's often very out of date regarding guild changes, or just plain wrong (a couple of my characters took about 3 months to reflect that they were now guildless, while a guildie of mine keeps getting shown guildless when he is not)

Yea the way Armory is setup, it makes it way easier to find things based on your guild name rather then if your character name.

Rollie does have a few things setup to link your WCR profile to your Armory profile, such as your Arena team information. Thats about it so far...

Thanks to everyone for their insights. I have some additional thoughts based on your feedback.

It does seem that the Armory is often outdated when it comes to guild changes, although individual character stats seem to be updated very quickly. At one point, I was actually listed as the guild leader of a guild that I had left weeks earlier and never been leader of in the first place! I'm not familiar with the technical reasons why it is more difficult to find things based on character name than guild name, but let's assume that we can overcome them with some innovative thinking (I'm an engineer, so I like to think that there's always a solution to a problem). Perhaps an approach like the following would be a good compromise between the "fast updates" from the census addon and the additional information available in the armory:

1. A characters enters WR's database when they are first seen by the census addon.
2. WR periodically queries the Armory to find additional information on the character (including "last updated" date). This could be especially useful for realms with very low census submission rates; once we know a character exists, we can use the Armory to find data when census submissions are lacking.
3. In cases where some information (e.g. guild) is inconsistent between census and Armory, the census data is preferred.

I think this would provide slightly better information for realms with low submissions, as well as allow us to take advantage of the additional character information available through the Armory.

Any updates on this? I've been using wow-heroes and checking out armor rating, on the top players in BG's, so I could compare how even the match is.

Would be cool to see the armor/etc rating of each person in the BG's of a finished game for killing fields?

Maybe at some point. I have my hands pretty full right now preparing for Wrath as well as getting out a new Warhammer Census.
