Advice please =)

Post by embeth »

Hi!

I recently decided to transfer servers and used this site to look at the new servers current stats. As it was newly opened there was not yet any info on it, so I decided to download the census mod so that I might help get the information across.

So I have just taken a census of both horde and ally side, and submitted the census.lua file which I obtained - and now I am hoping that it has all worked.

My (very nooby) question: Is there another way to alert this site to a new realm, or only by way of uploading census info?

I know it's probably a very silly question, but I am really hoping to get some stats on this site for others who might be thinking of transferring.

Thanks! :D

Hello to "downunder" ;)

I am sorry to tell you this, but according to your profile you have not submitted anything as I can see no unprocessed or processed entries in your profile.

I suggest following things for now:

1) Check that the server you sent info for is on the appropriate list (most likely US, as I imagine Australians mostly play on US servers.) If it is, proceed to 2. If it is not, post the name, language, type (for example PvE) here so Rollie (the site Admin) can add it.

2) Doublecheck that you sent the correct census.lua file, because some people have accidentally sent the wrong one (for example one from wrong folder or census.lua.bak). If you sent the wrong one, just submit the correct one.

3) Wait for more help, I have not been censusing for very long, so my ability to help is very limited.

Hi mate, thanks for the reply and apologies for checking back so late.

Bugger it said that I had submitted something, here is what I did:

After taking both horde and ally census' on the new US (Oceanic) server "Saurfang", I came and registered, then proceeded to the upload section. I very carefully followed instructions, and retreived the file "Census.lua" from this path:

C: , Program Files , World of Warcraft , WTF , Account , (my user name) , Saved Variables , CensusPlus.lua.

I noted that there was one with a larger extention, and also that there was one in the "savedVariables" folder under my realm folder, but used only that one.

I will attempt to upload the info again now, and hope that it helps get our new world on the map :D

The only thing I can think of is that this server is not yet on the list under "WoW Census", so perhaps I need to wait until it is or inform someone of its arrival?

Anyway, thanks again, wish me luck!

Edit: Better add the name/laguage type as you suggested

Name: Saurfang (Oceanic - US)
Language: English
Type: PvE

Hope this helps!

Double Edit!

I have just re-submitted the file and rather than and confirmation, it took me to a screen which had only what I assume to be my IP adress and my country....at this stage last time I closed the window so I will leave it open longer this time in the hopes that it's doing something!

....Can you tell I'm not too PC saavy

Hello again Embeth!

I checked a couple of things. First, Saurfang is already in the US list and there is a small amount info on it submitted by someone else. So that is ok. Second, you have submitted the right file. But... it just occured to me... are you logged in on the site too, as the forums have a separate login? It should have said: "You are currently logged in as embeth and will be credited for this submission." just above place, where you picked the file to be submitted. Also, you can not be playing WoW, when you submit.

At this very moment I still can not see a submission in your profile. :(

And do not worry about not being too PC savvy, learning things take time. I have been using a computer of some sort for pretty much every week for the past 24 years (since my 10th birthday)... and the most important thing I have learned is that there is always much more to learn. :D

Rollie is alerted to new server openings by us posting on the forums, but I bet he does his own reading on the WoW forums when he has time too. The community here usually makes the posts here the day that the realm is brought live to the WoW players so when Rollie reads the threads here he can then adjust his database to accomodate the new realm so updates will not be lost.

As for your submissions, you should make sure that you are logged into the main site before you submit data. The forums and the main site share the same login information so just make sure you click the Login link on the right of the main navigation bar before you submit data.

If you can't find it here is the link: http://www.warcraftrealms.com/login.php

Thanks guys, trying that now :D

Edit: Ok I went back to the main site and checked my status, and I am already logged in (I chose the option of always recognise me).

I really have no idea what I am doing wrong, little disheartening really

Here are some screenies to show what I am doing, hope they help!

Hmm yea it doesn't seem to be recognizing you that you submitted the data. You did submit the correct file and it does show that you are logged in.

Maybe Rollie can look into that and see whats up.

IT looks like it's not even recognizing your upload. Email me your data file to rollie (at) warcraftrealms.com
