How many high level toons is too much?

I'm currently doing my 2nd and 3rd 80 simultaneously (hybuir and oteb) but my best w0w friend is saying that I'm on the quick road to burn out. What do you guys think? How many maxed characters do you think is too much?
I'm thinking, one main raid dps, one pvp/farmer, and one heal/farmer
Sounds good, right?

Got 2 80s, one's working on achievements a bit, other's retired until 3.2, it's way too easy to get them stuck in all ilvl 200 epics with nothing left to do to improve them :-/ Eventually I aim to get every class to 80 but may take a while

Oh dear.... I have 4 Alliance 80s and working on my Hordie now...
One warrior, one druid, one DK and one hunter.
Yes, I have no life....

Hehe I had 8 lvl 70s when WotLK hit so it's not just you

Surprised I haven't got more to 80 yet tbh, but been concentrating on acheivements for my main plus some lower level alts, and then RL began to take over... one day I'll get more up there

I get that you might get bored once you're leveled all the way up and have decent gear, but for me it's more about the gear and raiding than ... exploring, or titles & stuff.. weird.

It's a case of different priorities really - I love to get my characters as wellgeared as possible, BUT... I don't really like raiding. I did Naxx-10 a load in a small guild at the start of WotLK, had fun for a while but just burned out. That happens every time I try to raid seriously and in the end it was a relief when the guild died and the raiding ended.
I'm clearly a person who's best just maximising my characters from soloing and 5-mans plus the odd pug raid rather than going in for serious raiding... which means working on acheivements beyond just gear is a good thing, otherwise I run out of stuff to do once my characters are maxed gearwise from heroics etc.

Yes, the achievements have really added to my enjoyment of the game plus the secondary professions. I am really not enjoying the jousting but I am doing it to get at least one character to Crusader level.
I have been doing the low level dungeons solo to get the achievements plus the exploring.

Saw this post, and I had to add =X
I currently have 10 level 80 characters on Maelstrom (All in the guild Delirium Trademark). I had another 80 paladin on Archi, but decided to delete it due to personal issues.
Come Cataclysm, I plan to move my warlock (the least loved of my children) to a new realm (TBA) and delete him after distributing an ass load of heirloom gear I've amassed. Enough weapons and armor to supply 10 fresh characters (one of each class) with chest/shoulders heirloom gear. Weapons to support them all, including 2 axes for a fury warrior, and bows for the hunter/rogue/warrior.
Amazingly, I've only burned out on raiding.

Wow that is a lot of 80s! I'm up to 4 now, hoping to get another 2 up there before Cataclysm but just can't manage to get all classes there yet. At least I finally got my least enjoyed class into the 60s I guess, it's progress!

Which class was that?
I left warrior and priest till last, thinking they'd be the least fun for me, but turns out I love those two classes more than any other. Warrior tanking's a huge change up from the paladin "whack-a-mole" style and priests are just amazing.

Warrior, just could never really get anywhere with it as dps specs, dragged myself to 50 duoing with my bf, then switched to prot since I was "tanking" anyway and suddenly bam, it became fun. Got that one to 68, now my lowest class is mage, which is pretty fun, I just need to find time to level it some more; it's the only class I've not reached at least 65 with, but hopefully soon I'll get there. Problem is I've got an 80 elemental shaman and I'm not seeing a lot that mage offers which the shaman doesn't atm, hoping it'll get more unique in time!
As for priests, can't get enough of them lol, got 80, 70 and 50 ones currently, and making at least one more for cataclysm, maybe 2! Seems my perfect class, just love it

Eh, ele-shaman is the over-achiever's mage I say. I love my mage for the huge Deep Freeze crits (20k in heroic 5 mans, seriously can't figure out the math behind that).
Warriors really... This is what I learned. Pre-50's, stick to arms. Rend ticks proc'ing Overpower is ridiculous, and lets you handle mobs alot higher than you. in the 50's, and until it's boring, devastate and talents make prot crazy. 9 rage for a devastate that you can spam forever. 60's and up is all about fury/titan's grip.
A big issue with people burning out on classes while leveling is they don't respec =( Certain builds are much more fun/effective in specific level ranges. I respec'd my mage 5-6 times before I ever got to 70 during BC. Would never of made it past 40 if I hadn't done that.

all my toons on Azgalor are 80s...one of each class. I had a spell in Korea where all I could do was PvP due to internet issues. Lucky for me it was before the XP nerf. I think I got 4 levels (73-77) on my lock in two days doing nothing but AV.
Sizzlelegs (Warrior)
Flutterkicks (Rogue)
Gankalicious (Warlock)
Superseki (Hunter)
Girlie (Mage)
Hooahmiester (Shaman)
Diurdruid (Druid)
Palladude (Paladin)
Cresselia (Priest)
Craptastic (Deathknight)
