Data Download

I love submitting new data to the website, but I would also enjoy being able to download data. Suppose I want to create a character on a realm I have never visited. It would be great to be able to request a .lua file from warcraftrealms.com that has current data from the realm(s) I already play on, as well as the new one.

Besides having realm data from the very start, it would also allow me to gauge whether my census polls are collecting data on new characters, or simply updating the ones that have already been seen.

That will be one large .lua file even if it was for one side on a server. Plus since the data is constantly updating on this site so your file will be outdated the second you download it.

Also it does currently say at the end of every scan if it found a new char and updated existing ones for your own data. And even if you had all the realm data on your pc this will still be incorrect because there are others on your realm who are also censusing and uploading the data, so when it comes time to process you will still get totally different numbers on the new chars and updated chars.

The only way to get true data is if there was a live connection to the in game scan and the warcraftrealms servers. But mod communication outside the game is blocked so that would not be possible. And even if it was allowed then Rollie wouldn't even need people to run scans because the servers would just be getting live feeds 24/7 from every single realm :P

While it may seem as a good idea, I don't see this being implemented anytime soon...... Unless of course someone can convince otherwise

I think the main difference between the census results in game and the ones on the site if you census regularly is the level 1-9 characters in game that aren't registered anymore on the site. Without those my server results look remarkably similar :P

Not that it's a horrible idea or anything; like DM pointed out, it's just kind of impractical. :)
