Per communication from Rollie about two hours ago.

He has been working on the updates needed to get this site compatible with the Mists of Pandaria release. However his real life put the food on the table work has been extra heavy this past week and more.

Currently he is modifying his Development environment with the changes needed and tested.. to which he says "It's close". After he his sure he has all the changes in the database schema and the PHP linkage programming is finished he will be ready to deploy to the live environment.

Since the database needs to change to support the new class and split faction race there will be a total shutdown of processing ahead of us. Rollie expects that the rebuild of the live database "will likely take a LONG time to process (as in 24 hours or so)."

Since this will take a long time... and with the expectation that new processing will place a heavy burden on the database machine.. he is looking at doing a swap out of the computer that supports the database with faster hardware. This extra might increase or decrease the time needed to get the site ready, but will certainly improve the processing speed for handling the backlog of data which is building up on your machines.

The final question that everyone has is "yes, but when will it be released?", the only answer we can give is the same as Blizzards.. "when it is ready."

A final comment from myself is that I see from the database stats page that people are still submitting using the old pre MoP version of the addon or (shudder) editing the version number in the current version savedvariables file [Very Bad Idea.. don't!!] Please stop uploading now the database is currently at +8 Hours in backlog.. which will need to be finished processing before Rollie can make his changes on the live database. Rollie's time to support this site is very limited.. and we don't want to lose any window of opportunity for his updates because he has to wait for the backlog to clear.

Considering the amount backlog, maybe the best option would be to pull the site offline ASAP so it can catchup. There will be a couple of hours of EU maintenance shutdown of WoW tomorrow morning, which means it would be better, if WCR went into "hardware update mode" at earliest possible point in time.

Despite the loss of my own computer, my stockpile folders are starting to stack... Thank you to all for updates... I'll be watching... and stockpiling even more stuff, I guess. Good luck to all!

I totally think the site should be shut down. Lots of people don't read these forums, and you're never going to stop them all from uploading.

Rollie will do so.. when he gets to that point... I'm just trying to cut the backlog a little.
It is true not every CensusPlus user keeps up to date by visiting the forums and reading.. but then there are times even when people read the forums they don't understand or follow through with requests

@ bringoutyourdead

If/when you "talk" to Rollie next, could you ask him to reduce the time between uploads to 1 minute, or even better remove it completely, for a period of time, so we can upload all our stockpiled files?

With the current 15min time limit, it will take me a minimum of 9 hours to upload all my files, if I press upload at the correct time.. Most likely MUCH longer..

I'd be inclined to do the opposite and increase the time between uploads, since everyone hitting the database with their entire backlog at once will likely overload the server and it'll take weeks to process :P

Ahh no wonder it complained about me trying to upload 6.0.0 data and the latest was 5.0.2 and that I should get the latest version.
<p>
<p>I agree with above, turn uploads off. Pointless if it doesn't work.

I honestly don't see how stockpiling is really gonna be all that useful anyway.

I set my data to auto-prune to 7 days. This keeps my uploads to the server (which are automatic every time I play WoW thanks to Uniuploader) fairly small, even when I get on an alt frenzy and play on like 15 different servers in the course of a week.

The website auto-prunes at 30 days. The only reason a history longer than that matters is to keep track of the speed people reached 90 or their guild history and frankly I don't really use that, myself.

I'm more interested in the present than in the past. Why stockpile?

Because LOTS of people are interested in the past. It's mitigated somewhat by all the faction/server/name changes people are able to easily do versus 2-3 years ago, but for long-term server residents, guild history is something they look at when taking applications.

I think your setting of auto-prune at 7 days likely puts you in the minority. My guess is 30 is much more common. I'm not sure what you mean by "the website auto-prunes at 30 days."

@Pennet -

I use the website for data like this:

http://www.warcraftrealms.com/census.ph ... rtypeid=-1

Or this:

http://www.warcraftrealms.com/quickstats.php

Both of those only include stats from the last 30 days.

Census Plus Broken

Post by metalbeast »

Hi There,

It appears that all the versions of the Census addons are not working.

The download version from the website causes continuous in game errors.

The new version from Curse does not have the right version to upload.

We seem to be completely broken for Census uploads.

Anyone have any workarounds or other ideas?

Love the functionality of this site.

Unfortunately, we depend on Rollie alone to finish update on the site itself. Bringoutyourdead and Balgair already did a huge amount of work for version 6 of addon... now we just need a site that take all the info in...

I have an expanding pile of stockpiled files... and I guess Fuxie is slowly going insane with his pile, which is probably 5 to 20 times as big as mine... if he hasn't burned out already... *shudders*

I can only advice more patience and hope that Rollie is able to sacrifice the required time really soon... this forced upload break is getting rather long and there have been literally zero new posts in the past couple of days... *deep sigh*

Even my stockpile is growing a lot and I'm only changing file once a day, Fuxie's must be crazy size! The silence is worrying, I very much hope Rollie can make the time soon :?

To be honest, I am starting to worry. Long breaks are not only bad for the data, they also cause longer term problems in the form of user loss... :( And my own computer still hasn't returned from repairs, which compounds my personal problems.

I also worry about Fuxie's mental health... if he has been keeping up the pace he said... he's now at 200+ files and counting... *shudders* Due to the loss of my own machine, I am at only about 40 files... but most of them are at 7+ MB size class. I fully expect to need several days for my uploads once the site is updated.

*deep sigh*

Epic Censi wishes everyone good luck!

Alternate Programmer Option

Post by metalbeast »

Hi There,

I have been a programmer/developer for over 30 years. I also own several web design, web hosting, and Internet connectivity companies.

If the existing programming department is unable to complete, then I would be very interested in stepping in to keep this project going.

The censusplus.lua data file seems very straightforward and is working good at collecting server information.

I would also be willing to invest in some improved hardware to make the site more responsive.

The Best,

MetalBeast
