Census madness challenge

Post by bringoutyourdead »

How many different realm factions can you do in a day or a weekend? (if you are really bonkers :roll: )

Rules (suggestions)
try to do both factions on a realm during the same hour
desire is to have at one census run per hour for the realm/faction (the activity graphs need that kind of data)
work on the least counted realms when possible.

I created a new mail account for me at my preferred webmail provider.
I then created another starter Battle.net account and attached another wow game instance... then started the madness.

I ended the weekend with 44 realms 78 factions 320 census runs
all but about 10 runs were 1 census/hour
the US data center realms went from multiple pages of 0's to now having 2 as the lowest count. and as you see from the numbers many of the realms I pushed up into the 5-8 range for both sides.

Dont know what I did yesterday, I'll post a screenie of my log sheet if I can.

Probably about the same though, if its a realm with alot of new or leveling toons, I will wait 10 mins and run a 2nd time to catch any lucky levelers.

Hah, I like this idea, is there an easy way to find out how many you've done in the files or anything? Otherwise I can see myself losing count lol - it's a good way to get the low censused realms up a bit though, good work on the US zeros! :)

Yes, if there was a way to see how many, that would be great. Even with my notes, I lose count.

No easy way...well maybe an easy way, but you must be very careful.
What I did to break out my numbers was to do the following.
(software required...
text viewer. [or not recommended.. editor] {I use viewer from Christian Ghisler's Total Commander}
Spreadsheet program of your choice - here is where you mark up your file for your counting) {I use the calc part of OpenOffice}

At Start of day (or weekend period) delete your censusplus.lua in the Savedvariables directory [fresh start]
Start up Wow .. reconfigure your /census timer to what ever you normally have 5-14 minutes
do your census runs for the period, uploading as needed or desired
at the end of the period and final upload do the following

Using viewer open censuslus.lua and select for copy the ["TimesPlus"] section of the data.. the copy ends probably at the ["Guilds"] or maybe the ["Info"] section. Copy to clipboard (ram memory)

Open up your spreadsheet program and import/paste the the copied data. {If interested in character counts you will need to use '=' and '&' as separators and then play the spreadsheet copy convert functions to get rid of the " in front of the first class number turning it from character back to number for the spreadsheet.}
Once all is in the spreadsheet as you want.. delete the last 3 number columns {this is other data we aren't currently using}

{by this time you are looking at the data and asking yourself "Why are the realms not in any order (alpha or in order censused) and why are the date/time stamps also out of order?"
I've yet to figure out how Blizzard decides to order the data as it writes it from ram memory to the saved file.}

The rest is manual counting...
Counting the Realms
Counting the factions
Counting the Census runs (per faction if you want)

At this point .. you can do a SUM(An:An+10) function on each line.. to sum up all the classes for a total of characters found in the run

You can try to match to the detail charts in the player activity graphs... but things won't be matchable if more then one person does census runs on the realm

Sounds complex enough that I think I'll just take notes lol :D Can't have a go anytiome too soon thanks to this nice little heatwave the UK is experiencing right now - I have to have my pc off most of the day to try to keep my living room below boiling point :P But when it cools off a bit I'll have a go, should be fun!

I am completely redoing my census lists and accounts to better organize it. It was fairly random with toons scattered over seven accounts. This should help a bit, if I ever get it 100% completed.

don't worry about being 100% complete and accurate..
After all we know that CensusPlus can't ever achieve that level.

Adding another mini-game within the game.

Using only standard issued starting resources.. nothing from the mailbox.
Getting XP only from kills.. no quest or discovery xp or other Xp grantors.

What is the minimum number of kills that you need to get from level 1 to level 4
report your Race/class and Starting zone you worked in.. (walking out of the starting zone is ok but no summons, rides etc., and when you get xp from discovery you disqualify the toon.)

On the mini-game: level 1 to 4 takes 3 kills... but only for Human, Tauren, and Undead.
The target are the starter zone (20 minute) RARE mobs, the other factions have to travel out of their starter zone to find a rare which triggers discovery xp and disqualifies.

Human - the mob has frost shield and melee moves which makes it tough for slow two handed Warriors and Pally's [i.e. I failed badly.:cry:] For Rogues it is good battle practice. For ranged it isn't very hard taking on the level 4 rare with your level 1.

Tauren - the mob has thorns which makes it tough for melee[failed again :evil: ] and if you are unlucky with the RNG casters[druids :twisted:] . Again a level 4 rare.

Undead - the mob is level 5 and out survives all but one class as it sonic blasts, silencing the life from you. Hunters are over powered with their instant specials allowing them to fire on the move (running away! :lol: )

Getting from level 4 to 5 takes 2000 xp which take at least 4 more kills of the starter rare to get. I tried to get to next level up Rare in the Undead area but hit the discovery line just before I get to the rare.. I might still be able to stand just before the line , /Target and shoot the rare.. my next little test while running the census.

If I may offer a suggestion? I am not 100% sure, but I think pets can't trigger discovery experience. Tried sending the pet to fetch the mob?

I have a feeling that you don't have enough control over pets at that level - at least with warlocks, they're a guardian rather than a pet for the first few levels (only attack when you attack a mob; you can't send them off by themselves), and I guess hunters will be the same.

Balgair is correct.
I've also realized that If you are starting a new character in the 3 lucky races.. you can level with the least effort (if not faster) by ignoring the starting quests and just hitting the rares (swapping to other characters while waiting for the 20 minute respawn timer)
Only going back to blast through the first 4,5 levels of quest when you want to pick up the reputation gains (which are not level dependent)
