Hi everyone!

I'm hoping that someone can help me as I am new to both Warcraft and reading the census information. I live on the east coast so I was looking for the most active and balanced server to build my character on.

Reading the Census information
Activity Ratio: 1.1 : 1
456 : 116*
* Number of entries in last 30 days

That seemed to me like a reasonable activity ratio and I joined the server.

But after playing all last night I noticed their weren't may other players besides myself. In about 7hrs of playing I only saw about 8 real people.

Basically my questions are. Did I read the activity info wrong? Or was it just an off night?

It could of been an off night. And it could also be the area you are playing in. Much of Azeroth (Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor) is pretty much empty and only < lvl 58 chars can be seen there. So its not uncommon to go for hours and hours and only see a handful of players. However enter Ironforge, Stormwind, or Orgrimmar and you'll see alot more there.

Yes, I picked Bleeding Hollow. I'm playing a Tauren Warrior and only level 8. Maybe I got into WOW too late if everyone is pretty much lvl60+...

Just an off topic question do you think the level cap will be raised again?

Nothing has been officially said on what the next expansion will be like. But who knows what Blizzard might do... lvl 1 - 70 does take quite sometime to do, and then the reputation grinds needed if you wish to do the Heroic instances, and all the gear... /sigh

lvl 60 tier 2 gear can easily be replaced with many lvl 70 blue quality gear easily found in normal difficulty instances and through quest lines. To think that Blizzard will make this gear useless in a year's time....


But who knows what will happen. Outland opens up alot of ways for Blizzard to expand. And then don't forget about the portals all through Azeroth with the dragons guarding the Emerald Dream.

Nah I don't think there is a too late with WoW. People are always re-rolling. And once you're out of start zone you should see more people.

As for the >58 tending to steer clear of Azeroth.. Not on PvP servers.. No no then there are plenty of 70's around Azeroth preying on the keen lowbies daring to enter their first contested zone

I've played on Bleeding Hollow since day 1 on alliance side, essentially the server has been very high population much of this time but it's a little lower now. It's still a high population server but the majority of active players tend to have high level characters they primarily play, this seems to be even more true on horde than alliance with alliance having a more casual mindset. That said you'll notice more people around when you get a little higher level, both because there are more chars actively played but also because people that hit 70 and have done most of the non raid 70 stuff will be spending more time on their alts in between.

I'm sure you can find a higher population server for lower levels but I would guess most servers that have been around for a year or more will look pretty abandoned if you just check out the starter areas. Use Census to check out how many are online in the 20-40 range at your playing hours as you'll hit those levels pretty fast and grouping will be much more worthwhile at that level anyway.

Plus, not many people hang out in mulgore/thunder bluff...

haha, yea. You guys were right, I'm starting to see a lot more people now, even if they are higher levels...

TB is my favorite city for the Horde. Ogrimmar is fugly, and UC feels more like a dungeon than a city. Mulgore is so clean and nice that I don't see why more people don't hang out in it! Think about air quality!

And as a Mage I can just port in and out of there. Everything I need is in one district.. its soo nice =)

I have my blacksmithing and engineering alts in TB, due to the AH, bank, and the forge/anvil being right there in one place. In org the freaking anvil and forge are ridiculously far out of the way, so that's why I switched to TB. I don't mind UC all that much as I've had my pally hearth there forever (darn no pally trainers in kalimdor >_<) although I might as well switch to silvermoon because the pally trainer in UC is in the most inconvenient spot...
