Questions about submissions, at the realm / faction level

Post by Kosh »

I was wondering a couple of things about how processed submissions are counted at realm / faction level.

First, for each uploaded file, does each realm / faction "seen" since the last upload get counted as an entry for that realm's page, or is it only realm / factions that had at least one update, or, perhaps some other means of counting entries?

For example, if an upload had new scans for three server / factions, but the third one had no updates, would the processing record two or three "entries" for the relevant servers / factions?

Second, if a realm / faction is scanned multiple times between submissions, say for example, five, would that upload be counted as one or five "entries" for that server / faction? I always figured it would be just one, but I noticed the "TimesPlus" structure in the SV file that could be used to keep track of that count.

I was pondering both of these thoughts after noticing that I may currently be the only one submitting entries for one of the server / factions I am scanning, and with a few of my submissions erring out in processing, the specific implementation could make a difference.

Thanks for your time, Rollie! :)

"seen" is censuses processed in game whether they update or not. Even though a character can be already 'found' in the server, he/she may have leveled/changed guild which would be an update from information already on file.

uploads are only counted individually per user and not attributed to servers.

Um, uploads are counted at the server level. See for example, this page for the Whisperwind (US) server. Note the pair of numbers below "Activity Ratio" on the right, with the footnote below it, "Number of entries in last 30 days".

I'm not sure what you're getting at, but your roughly 30 plus around 73 other people on Boulderfist Horde submitting once a day (or many less submitting several times a day ?) will get you up to the listed total over 30 days for horde.

As an aside, I first created a horde alt on my main server the first time their submission numbers crashed, but wow, they never got down as low as your alliance number!

? or scanning multiple times and submitting, depending on how they're processed, per my second question.

I wonder if there's a way to find the number of contributers for BF Horde.

Not really, Hyb =(

An entry is a census scan, not an upload. So what Hyb says holds true for that as well.

OK, cool. So if I scan a realm / faction say twice, then my upload eventually errors out, those two should still get counted on my next (successful) submission. It's still a bummer that I probably loose out on getting credit for seeing some new / updates first, but the ending numbers will still turn out the same.

Oh, and Hybuir, given that, if the "average" submitter on your realm / faction plays for two hours each day, and continuously scans, with a WAG of 0:20/scan average, you would only need around 12 of them. :)

I don't think that the people that run C+ can be restricted for 2 hours on w0w lol (unless you just moved in with your girlfriend into your new apt, which explains my numbers :? )

Yea, just picking some semi-conservative numbers out of thin air to show just how few people it might be. ;)
