Max concurrent population

Post by Alanthus »

Was nuts enough to collate highest concurrent population for all servers in a table again, posting it here just in case someone else feels this strange urge to save them some time ;)

The data is only as good as submissions of course, some servers like Archimonde actually have higher max populations but there are too few samples available to show that.

Oh, and I'm sure the formatting will be shredded posting but hopefully still legible.

A couple of things I noticed comparing these to the June numbers btw:

Most realms remain fairly stable in population, this surprised me to be honest, I would have expected lower population realms to have dropped even more considering the problems accessing some content. I guess that shows how solid the core PvE 1-60 game is and that no competitors managed to make a dent yet...

Gurubashi and Frostwolf both dropped dramatically, looking at the numbers I'm guessing that numerically unbalanced PvP realms are very frustrating to play on. The underdog realm gets griefed by bored 60's all the time and the dominating realm can't get into BG's for lack of opponents (which they ran off the server).

There are a number of realms that are pretty close to max capacity or at max capacity, any realms showing 3200+ in the list are really pretty much full at prime time. There are also no *really* low level servers when you look at total population, I would have expected some to have dropped to about 1500 or even lower. It's pretty clear why Blizzard is still starting new servers.

The RP-PvP servers haven't really been a success as of yet, I guess the jury is still out but other newly started servers have had considerably higher population numbers after a few weeks. There is no indication that existing RP servers lost a lot of players and the unofficial RP-PvP server designated by players (Bleeding Hollow) appears to have lost very few players as well.

I noticed several very high population servers lack prime time data, this is of course due to the fact that they are queued and take a lot of time to get into and run a census at that time. This doesn't appear to stop players from creating new characters and moving to these servers though.

I do still want to present this kind of data as a report on the site, just gotta get it done =)

Good work gathering it up yourself. I have noticed also that things seem pretty stable for the most part. You can also get a general feeling of this from the weekly faction activity charts.

Well, having done it manually twice I see the problem with getting it done, even right now with all the contest data in there are realms where the numbers aren't very substantial at all and that would have to be indicated somehow as well as taken into account generating the resulting data display.

And yes, I actually would like to see easy links to specific weekly faction activity for each server from any listing such as the one above as the next step in delving data of course is checking specific servers to see what's behind the total numbers. Different ways of looking at the same data sometimes helps a lot depending on what you're looking for though, there are a lot of ways at looking at the data that would be very interesting if we had more complete data like trends in population for different type servers or servers started at different dates etc. but it's fun to try and find valid views of the data that *is* available :)

Hmmm, and if I get the urge to do something like this I'll certainly remember the tags ;)
