Processing Issues and one other question

Post by Tadpole »

Greetings, just signed up yesterday and I'm having fun with this, but....when I submitted my first data it worked no problem and I saw the results from my submission, but the ones I have done since are not showing any results...everything is 0 0 and it says they were processed.

I realize now that I shouldn't submit any quicker than 15min. apart and so I'm assuming some of my results do not count, but I know a couple definitely should have results there. For example I choose a server with about 1000 total players on it that's the Horde and Alliance together...that is based on the stats on our site...I took a census for that realm a couple times yesterday and these were submitted hours apart from each other, my results show that I've seen well over 1500 and that's on the Horde side alone, yet the site shows nothing but 0 0 for my submission and they say they were processed. I checked the US Realm Stats for the server that I chose and nothing is different on there even though it should be double its number based on my submission. Another thing is that this server is on the most wanted list and was at 0 for entries...checked it this morning and it's now at 1...I submitted twice for that server yesterday.

Uhhgg...anyway I hope someone can enlighten me on what I might be doing wrong because I would really enjoy doing this...but it's not so motivating when I don't see the numbers there in my face. Oh don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I don't purge.

One other question...I went to claim my character...Malibu on Smolderthorn and your site does not show my toon...it shows a lvl 70 gnome mage named Malibu on that server that's shows last activity back in 2007...my toon is lvl 85 draenei (sp?) hunter. I ran a census on that actual toon yesterday, but again everything is showing 0 0...I just thought if I ran the census there it would pick her up and I would be able to claim her on here.

What am I doing wrong :*(

Hello and welcome!

Let's see... Purging after each submission is not mandatory, so that is not the root of the problem.

You made a successful submission so you obviously submitted the right file...

Occasionally, though very rarely, the .lua can be damaged or deleted if there is a problem during logout / exit. Also, sometimes a problem simply causes the new data to fail to save, meaning the file retains only old data.

I see you have a new submission today, which has not processed yet. I'll try to remember to check whether that succeeds and then think more, if necessary.

Hopefully today will work out better for you!

Happy censusing!:D

EDIT: Just checked your profile again... sadly, your submisson from today also failed. :(

I might have additional ideas later, but right now I suggest the following:

Check the size of your .lua file, write it down, run a single census on a (high population) faction and recheck the file size. If it has not changed, then the file is likely somehow corrupted and refuses to accept new data.

If the file is bigger, try submitting again.

Sorry for not having any really bright ideas, somewhat tired due to short sleep.

No worries...and thank you very much for your quick reply. I actually thought the same thing about checking the size of the file...but it was just at a glance and didn't check intentionally, but at a glance the file size never appeared to change...at least I think it wasn't.....either way I will do as you suggested and actually pay attention 100% if the file size is not changing.

Now don't know if it makes a difference but I usually just exit and if the 20 second countdown starts I usually push exit now then immediately get on here and submit...perhaps I should let it log out then exit from there. If this doesn't help maybe I should download the add-on again.

EDIT: Alrighty, I think I figured out the problem...maybe. I made a submission so we'll see if it goes through, if not then my next step is to re-download.

Hello again!

You may have rushed the upload too much, ruining the save as your latest submission was successful. :D

Good luck with the next ones! :D

3 cheers!
