Hmm, weird that I haven't crashed at all lately... of course, now that I've said it, my next AV I'm sure they'll come back :P

Crashing to desktop w/ ERROR #132

Post by Runstadrey »

I've been seeing the same problem. It crashes to the desktop with a WoW error reporting dialog. I've been sending them all to Blizz. But, I have to restart the WoW client.

I'm running WinXP SP3, Radeon HD2900 XT, 2 GB Ram & Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz, so I know I've go the horsepower.

When I reported it on the Tech Support forum a blue said I should do the delete WTF, Cache & Addons directories. I didn't think it would help but I did so anyway (except the directories containing the macros - BGing a warrior w/o macros is a dreadful thought). And it did help, I did an AV, AB & WSG w/ no crashes.

So I restored the directories and it promptly crashed. I thought since my only addon that runs periodically is the C+ I would disable it. Did the AB, AV & WSG rotation w/o incident. The C+ file is only 1.5 MB on my low pop server.

I logged on here to ask that we be given an option to disable the client during battlegrounds, but found this thread and realize I am not alone.

Until the exact cause of the problem is determined can you make a quick update to disable during BGs? I'll have to disable it always until then.

Thank you for your time.

I was actually going to do just that today. Put in a change that will basically disable C+ while in BG's and see if that helps.

Could you post a message here when you do? I'd happily be your guinea pig.

TYVM.

[edit] But, I really believe these crashes are due to something Blizz did in 2.4.2. Before that patch I ran C+ all the time, everywhere. It wasn't until that patch that I started having these crashes. But, of course their solution is 'disable addons'. Odd, given their supposed open support of addons.

I have a local version working but I haven't had as much time to test it as I'd like. ANd the next few days are going to be very busy with me out of the house most of the time.

If you are interested in testing it out, you can grab the test version here:

http://www.warcraftrealms.com/temp/CensusPlus.lua

Just drop that into your /World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons/CensusPlus directory.

As this is a local debug version, you'll likely see a few extra messages here and there that you are not used to seeing. Just let me know if you get any wierdness, or crashes (or not!).

OK, I've got the update. Will try it asap. This is Memorial weekend in the US and I've got family obligations - so it might be a while before I do any serious BGing.

But, I will post as soon as I do a rotation AV, AB, WSG; EotS will have to wait, the toon I'm bging now is only 59.

First observation - this version has introduced the "guild window pops up all the time" issue for me... I know others have had it already but I never got it except on zoning or people joining/leaving the guild... now it's every other second while scan runs, ie whenever the /who is run :?

2nd observation:

Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken
Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken
Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken
Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken
Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken
Census+: You are currently in a Battleground so a Census cannot be taken

...you get the idea ;) Good idea putting a notification up but every 2-3 seconds is maybe a little extreme; a spam reduction option to cut it to every 1-2 mins would be handy :)

No crash yet but then I disabled autocensus partway through the game because I couldn't read BG chat :?

Was trying to remove all the 'taint' issues that I could, which probably introduced the added window pops.

The other messages are due to debug work =)

Well after making a 2nd chat window so I can see the BG messages it seems to work alright, no crashes so far and censuses successfully not running while in the BG. Here's hoping that this does cure the crashing!

Once this is introduced, it would be nice to have the option to run a census during a BG at our own peril. I usually have it running nonstop while I'm in BGs and don't crash all that much, so I'd be unhappy if it was a forced change and I couldn't take any while I BG ;) Of course, I'm all for fixing it for the people that crash more often than I do, so I'll take one for the team if necessary :P

Ok, got my new pc and installed Census without the new .lua, wondering if the crashes would still happen. Been pretty quiet for a day or so but...

/sigh

Was at least worth trying to see if the change in hardware/system setup helped, but seems not ;) Downloading the modified version now!

(Unrelated note: if anyone's thinking of getting a new pc, do it - I had no idea how good the game looks on maximum graphics settings, and I cannot get it to go to low fps no matter what I do now, it's amazing :D)

Yeah, if I wasn't back in school I'd have the money to do so, hehe ;)

On a side note, I haven't crashed in a month+ now, even with Censusplus on and running a census in a bg. That counts both my PC and my laptop, which both have Censusplus installed. I haven't really run bg's extensively tbh, but I've made it through probably 30 on my PC and 10 on my laptop so far with no crashes.

I have been running with my 'modified' version for a bit now and have not had any BG crashes. I'll be releasing the new version shortly.
