"Too many characters matching"... error

Post by Valdesta »

Greets!

I'm getting an increased number of "WARNING: Too many characters matching..." errors when Census+ is trying to take a poll of the lvl 60's when there's, for example, over 50 Night Elf Rogues at lvl 60 whose names start with A.

Since the servers seem to have an overwhelming dominance of Night Elves and Humans, those are the two types I'm seeing this the most on.

Since the processing is limited to 50 a go, I'm sure you foresaw this... what are your thoughts, oh wonderful Rollie? :)

Does this still mean that the numbers are counted as part of the census?

If so, how do you determine how many more than 50 of quantity X (ie: Nigh Elf Hunters with names starting with 'A', or Human Paladins with names starting with 'E' [2 examples I saw tonight]) there were? Was it 51 or 65?

I would think that this is throwing the server stats out of whack, since the /who function is limited to only 50 results, and anything over that is currently not being counted (and possibly even the first 50 not counting if my manual caluctlations are correct when compared to the Census run I did). {FYI: Manual calculation showed 1871 chat on Blackrock Alliance at the time I did my census run. 2 runs of Census plus only registered 1735 characters...}

Maybe adding a second letter string to the search variable (ie: r=Night Elf, c=Hunter, n=ab, etc) may help catch all those that seem to be slipping through the cracks currently.

The breakdown is designed to overlap. I would be very surprised if any are slipping through the cracks. In all the testing I did when setting this up, I never found an instance of where someone was 'missed'.

Do you mind telling me how you did your manual calculation in which you determined there were 1871?
