Suggestion: "semi-verbose"

Post by Kosh »

I usually have the mod set to "verbose", since I like to know where it's at, but when I need to pay attention to chat for any reason, I generally turn verbose off.

What would be nice is if there was an option somewhere in between the two, so you can see how the scan is progressing without "real" chat scrolling away too quickly. This might also be a good alternative to those who want a progress indicator.

What I was thinking about would be to only issue a message every time you kick off a "top-level" range scan, such as level 60-69, etc., and perhaps one step down for level 70 (& eventually 80), so you'd report on when you start scanning each race at level 70.

With this option, I would not expect to see the "processed" lines, just the initial "sending" messages.

What do you think?

I usually just press O to open up the Friends Frame. Its almost always on the Who tab and that gives me some sort of idea where it is in the scanning.

But that's just me :P

Hmm, you must do manual "Who" searches. At least for me, that frame is always on the last tab I was in when last using it (usually Friends).

And thanks for the vote, Rollie! :)

I usually leave mine on friends as well, and always run verbose since I like to know exactly where I am at in a scan at all times. For awhile I ran two chat logs to alleviate the spam, but since 3.0 I completely reconfigured my UI and so I only have one now. I too could see the value of a semi-verbose mode, especially since censuses taken on Mal'Ganis and Whisperwind both tend to take some time.

... i have 7 chat windows.
1. General where everything starts out
2. Guild + guildfriend chat channel
3. Party / raid / BG / sometimes also contains xp/rep/honor gains
4. Tells
5. Looted money/items
6. A particular box that I usually keep hidden (behind the General tab), but contains boss emotes. Was very handy when fighting Murmur, so was Extra Sure that i wouldn't miss his breath emote.
7. The Combat Log window/tab that's always hidden behind General... but it's there : p.

Hi, this is my first Chat Window-aholics meeting... my name is Sanna... : p
In EQ1 I think I had 9 windows at my worst. Where on earth on my screen did I even /put/ all of them... Although I think one of them was in a "perma-minimized" state, since you couldn't 'hide' chat windows in EQ1 like you can in Wow. Also I was in like 3 chat channels and 2 of them had their own windows. You could have cross-server channels in EQ1, and I know if Wow had had them, I wouldn't have lost a lot of friends of mine that went to other servers : <. oh well. ce la vie.

ok less rambling, real question! is my Who tab supposed to real-time refresh when CP sends a new /who query? Because it doesn't. It's not a big loss... just wondering.
Censusing: Mostly Bronzebeard, Aggramar, Elune; sometimes Alleria, Icecrown, Scilla, Kel'Thuzad, Mal'Ganis, Draka, Staghelm, Nathrezim, Stonemaul.

The who window used to refresh real time, but does not anymore (during a scan).

This is a side effect of the changes to prevent the taint and window popping.
