ATTENTION ROLLIE!
Please start working on Panda and Monk support relative early, so we won't suffer from the same problems in MoP, that we did in Cata..
I have a guarantied spot in MoP beta, so I'd happily test during Beta...

Not much he can do until the first of the beta comes out.
The interesting trick of this expansion is that the same race can be in either faction.
Always blizzard has identified a character by realm/faction/name to prevent duplicate names.
I expect that Blizzard will actually internally identify the Pandaren as two different race classes, one for horde one for alliance... but that is just a wild guess. Actually after further thought I expect this is wrong.. Since a Pandaren will either be starting (Neutral) or faction selected (Alliance, Horde). So for census purposes it is 3 factions!!
Information Rollie will need is:
Blizzards ID number(s) for Race Pandaren
Blizzards ID number for Class Monk
If Blizzard breaks their coding pattern for the new race it will mean a major logic problem for Census Plus
It is interesting to know that all races except the Cata Worgen & Goblins can have the Monk class
And I see that a Pandaren can be a Monk, Mage, Warrior,Rogue, Hunter,Priest, Shaman
Oh minor update.. top level will be 90
(Hint: Yup I am trying to put in one place that data Rollie will need..
edit 31-Oct-2011
old local Latin America language Spanish esMX
new locale Brazil language Portuguese .. specific realms to be designated, NA users will be able to get language pack.. therefore expect realms will be US based. guess id as ptBR

Actually, there is..bringoutyourdead wrote:Not much he can do until the first of the beta comes out.
Since CP basically just send "/who <race> <class> <level>" strings, this can be inplemented tomorrow, and it will run fine.. Simply because "Pandaren" and/or "Monk" will just return Zero users. This way, everything will "work as normal", until the first Panda or Monk is seen online..
True.. That is a predicament.. And what can add even more grief, is the fact that Pandas will most likely start as neutral, and then choose faction somewhere between level 5 and 15..bringoutyourdead wrote:The interesting trick of this expansion is that the same race can be in either faction.
This could be solved by no tracking Pandas below "faction choosing level".
When Pandas have choosen faction, CP knows what faction you scan (while it's running), and I'll assume, that you still won't be able to /who the "wrong faction of pandas". CP will just have to add the name under the correct faction, in the LUA..

I too am guaranteed to be in the beta and happy to test!
The Pandaren will be an interesting one; not even sure if neutral pandas will appear in /who results, perhaps they'd be treated like a 3rd faction, not connected to either of the others? Since, if you are a neutral panda, what results do you get when doing a /who? And how much can you interact with horde/alliance people? Surely they'd have to be separated off from both factions until they pick one, or you could see the interesting situation of a panda inviting both a horde and alliance friend into a group together - plenty of potential for trickery there, so somehow I suspect they'll end up cut off from everyone. Although it sure has potential for easier censusing if /who would pick up both sides when you're a panda: cue an army of panda census alts
Somehow I think it's unlikely though!
Agree that not tracking neutral pandas would be the best way to avoid confusion; I imagine if they appear in /who results, flagging it up to ignore anybody seen in [panda start zone who's name I forget] could work, since it's upon leaving the zone that you pick a side. Assuming you can't leave until you pick a side, anyway; I guess we'll find that one out when the beta starts.

And this raise yet another questtion, unrelated to CP: Can you join "your favorite guild" before choosing faction?Balgair wrote:And how much can you interact with horde/alliance people? From what I'm reading.. the Pandarean start will again be a phased zone without interaction with other race characters...
But I think I'm reading that you will be fighting against both Horde and Alliance NPCs before you learn why you want to join one side or the other.. you won't be able to leave the zone and interact with people from either side until you choose your side.

After a little running around on the beta:
Pandaren can't join guilds until they choose a faction.
They can use /who, but it only works on other non-factioned Pandaren; you can't sneakily use a panda census alt to do both factions (shame!)
Pandaren who are still on the island cannot be seen on /who by characters outside the island.
Basically they're totally separated from both factions until they pick a faction, at which point they're transported to their faction capital and become like other characters as far as interaction and /who goes.
Addons are disabled on beta right now so afraid I can't check if Censusplus works yet, even for just the existing races.
