First, thanks for all your hard work with this site, and drawing out census data from WoW for the rest of us to use. THANK YOU.

As far as I can tell, the data dumps are current data, and the only thing that looks back is the 6-month activity chart (http://www.warcraftrealms.com/weeklyact ... erverid=-1) of weekly activity.

Is there a similar chart showing weekly/monthly/whatever player activity for the lifetime of WoW or at least Warcraftrealms.com?

I'm genuinely curious if WoW has peaked, and your data set seems to be the only way to get an objective picture.

Rollie is the only one who can tell you whether older information is still available somewhere (offline, that is).

As for WoW peaking... I am afraid WCR data is insufficient to make that objective picture you are looking for. A lot of heavy census users have quit or are doing very little and especially EU side is full of gaping holes of 0 current data.

Blizzard might afford to lose 500, 5000 or even 50000 users... but to be blunt, WCR losing even 5 of the "heavy hitters" hurts the figures like hell.

As of right now...

EU English realms: 8 with reliable (more than 100 entries in past 30 days) data on both sides, French: ZERO realms with reliable data on both sides, German: 3... and Spanish: also ZERO.

That's a total of 11 out of almost 300 (295?).

The only objective conclusion that can be drawn from that is the sad fact that there are way too few people running Censusplus and submitting actively.

Now a completely subjective conclusion based solely on my personal experiences and counts I tend to get. There was a very heavy upwards peak in activity as Cataclysm hit the stores. Now, it seems most places are pretty much back to the values they had shortly before Cataclysm or very slightly down from those.

Balgair, Fuxie, Gmmmpresser, etc... If you are reading this, please toss in your thoughts as well...

EDIT: Corrected a couple of typos.

Thank you.
My feeling was pretty much the same, I have played largely on Eldre'Thalas, and while it could just be a server-issue, I suspect that the numbers now are somewhere down around pre-cata numbers.

Of course, this could be because everyone's drifted off to gear the umpteen alts they created in the WotLK doldrums of easy epics, but I dunno, it just feels like it's on a downhill curve, and that the Cata bump- while significant - was neither as high nor as long lasting as the WotLK bump.

I don't usually take much notice of the 'actual' figures that I upload. Plus living on the opposite side of the planet where everybody lives, my figures are usually pretty low because everybody is sleeping instead of playing. :)
But I have noticed that, even in the middle of the night, or early morning server time, the numbers do seem to be down quite a bit.

Missed this thread until now but I'm inclined to agree - I'm not really censusing that much but numbers on my home server seem low to me, I'd even say below pre-Cata levels, maybe around the slump 2-3 months before Cata time. But then I'm not playing so much so may only be on at the wrong times of day.

I do know it's been weeks if not months since I saw anybody online on my friendslist, which, while I don't have a massive friendslist, certainly says something about how much the people I (used to) know are playing. And I'm playing far less myself, burnout/boredom seem to have hit a bit. I expected the new expansion effect to last much longer than it has; everyone I knew seemed to disappear after 3-4 months, and usually it takes nearer a year for that. Haven't been on much since 4.1 (been on holiday, and Portal 2 is eating my time ;)) so maybe that's helped matters, but it'll take 4.2 to bring the raiders back, since longtime raiders won't really think of ZG/ZA as "new" content, for all it's nice to see them again.

I'll take more careful note of the census figures I see and see if it is noticeably lower - maybe I can help with those 0's, as well, unfortunately I have a small lack of character slots issue, and it's a pain to delete a character I know I'll want again soon (since nobody ese censuses the server!), so I don't tend to do the delete/create cycle much, unless it's clear somebody's started censusing a server regularly, so I'm no longer needed.

Thank you for input...

As I noted on my post of 29.4., it's really hard to make any reliable overall observations as we simply don't have sufficient data. Especially since the data that I personally get is conflicting. Some realms have more people than a year ago (like EU-Magtheridon that really benefitted from being turned into a PvE realm), others remain about the same and yet others are obviously down.

Also... since the most wanted lists are a total disaster on EU side... we are actually in a situation where we will be getting a higher new count than last month simply because we are losing data like there is no tomorrow... and at the same time, the updates figures have generally gone down. Unless I manage to get very lucky during the rest of the month, I am actually going to get my first ever under 300k updates month... and that after 30 months of above that in a row. :(

In light of April's figures... I can fairly safely say I already know that I won't drop out of the top 7 new ones and am already almost guaranteed the number 1 spot on the monthly updates... even if I score my worst ever result. That feels a bit weird. :/

No, scratch that... That feels very weird. Until now, being in the top 3 of both monthly lists has taken quite a bit of effort... This month... in theory, if I quit complety right now and everyone else would exactly double their results (since 50% of the month will be gone very soon :D ), I would drop to 3rd on the new list and retain my 1st place on the monthly updates list.

If I quit and everyone pushed hard and tripled their current figures? I would still be 7th on the new list and 2nd on the updates list. If everyone else could quadruple their results? I would most likely barely get pushed out of the new ones top 10 and still retain 4th place on the updates list.

x5? At that point, yes the new ones list would be just a dream... With my 25 511 losing to Nickdman's theoretical result of exactly 34 000 at 9th spot and someone else's results taking 10th, 11th, etc spots ahead of me... But even at that rate, I would still score 7th on the updates list, just ahead of rji who would have 132 170 updates against my current 132 988.

I hope my text doesn't sound too much like a brag... because I really can't brag about likely getting my worst ever updates results. However, it should point out that general result levels are really low.

US side is still somehow surviving... but the EU side figures are... just sad. :(

Epic Censi signing off for now and returning to play and census...
