Child's Play Charity

Post by Rollie »

I have reactivated the Child's Play Charity banners. I had almost forgotten about it.

At any rate, some of you may recall that last year I accepted donations through the site and gave some other perks to those who donated. I don't really have everything set up to do that again this year, so I'm just going to ask everyone to make donations directly.

But! I'm still going to give bonuses! I'm just going to go on the honor system here!

For every $10 you donate, I'll grant an extra 2 tickets to December's drawing. When you make a donation, post in this thread how much you donated and when and I'll mark you down as having made that amount of donation.

I realize that this can easily be taken advantage of, and I hope given the charitable nature of this endeavor that it will sway people away from such unscrupulous acts.

If you want to remain anonymous in how much you donated, you can also just PM me through the site how much you donated.

We nearly hit $1k last year and I'd like to see the visitors to the site beat that this year so break out your wallet and give a little!

Think of the kids!

From their FAQ:

Q: Since this is a charity donation I can deduct it from my taxes, right?
A: Each hospital?s charity tax ID number is included in the information section on its wish list. Use your confirmation email as a receipt. If you are making a cash donation, Child?s Play?s own tax ID number is 20-3584556. If you have any questions about how this works, please ask your tax advisor.

It was gathering dust on my paypal account. As a kid I had to go to the hospital for a few times so I know a bit how it is there (kinda boring without anything to do). With 2 computers and a laptop I figured they need it alot more then I do :). I also would encourage everyone that is considering of donating anything to do so. Only if it's $10 that you can miss don't hesitate, your giving these kids something more then just some games. Your giving them a moment to forget everything around them, sickness around them, all the hectic of a hospital, all the misery and pain surrounding them. Your giving them a change to feel like a child again, all is it only for a moment and thats worth alot.

My wife is a nurse at a pediatric hospital, and anything that can help long (or short) hospital stays is always appreciated :P

Speaking of which, I donated $20 :)
