A little worried, haxxorz?

Post by kenshindono »

i was just reading on another forum about some people who got totally screwed with UI mods. Evidently hackers put viruses in them with keyboard stroke recorders on it then get into your account and strip your stuff

this is obviously a big problem. i was just wondering if theres ever been a history of stuff like this with this mod? ive been using it for a few weeks now and am quite concerned about this.

The only risk you run is if you download the mod anywhere but here. By and large the keyloggers are being installed by compromised autoinstalling UI mods.

It is this very reason that I do not use any executable here. The UI mod is in a normal zip file and you must manually upload your file here instead of using a client uploading application.

i did d.load it here so i'll just keep using it i guess

I dont really understand why so many people

A: Are afraid of getting viruses from addons.
B: Dont use addons at all

Anyway thanks for contributing to the project, the more the better! :)

It's very understandable and healthy that people are sceptical, keep in mind that to most people a mod doesn't appear that different from any other active content file such as a script, an executable, a picture, a movie, an office file and so forth and all of those may contain viruses. You also have Blizzard actively (and unfortunately with good reason) warning users about some fan sites that were compromised. Being careful when it comes to viruses and other malware is never wrong.

Being careful is better than having important personal info being stolen. As much as it sucks to get your WoW account hacked, your bank account and credit card information is much, much worse :?

Education would definitely help. But if people don't want to use any mods, that's their business :P Just as long as they don't complain about ME using mods, it's all good ;)
