xp wrong in outlands??

Post by uigrad »

I noticed upon first stepping in outlands that the experience I was getting per kill being far greater than i remember in Azeroth. I think that killing a 58 in winterspring used to give me approximately 315 xp (plus rested bonus), but killing a 58 in outlands when I am level 60 gives 504 xp (plus rested bonus).

I wasn't invited to the beta. For those of you who were, is this is the same accelerated xp that they had in beta? Do you think that they're going to nerf xp next week?

I could post this on the "bugs" forum that Blizzard has, but I don't want them to fix it yet :)

It seems normal. XP in instances is also much higher, I was getting 600 XP for mobs in a 5 man group. I've run Hellfire Ramparts twice and Blood Furnace once, I believe I'm just about done with quests in Hellfire Peninsula, and my level (62) is about that of mobs I've seen in the next zones. Everything seems to be falling into place, from my perspective.

I haven't had a chance to get to Outlands yet but I did do a LBRS run the other day and was getting 600+xp w/rested there. Are the exp gained from mobs that are listed at the same level in Azeroth on the same exp scale or do they have a higher exp gain on them?

The old world mobs will not give you as much experience as the mobs in the outland. It is the same as it was in Beta and it was not accelerated towards the end of Beta.

With how long it takes to level, it makes sense. Even with quests giving 8-10k exp, it still takes awhile even just to hit 61, haha. But then again, it's just weird to be leveling my main again after being 60 for like 15 months ;)

alright, I guess it's working as intended.

It does seems aufully strange. Once you reach level 58, there is always a plentiful amount of quests in Azeroth to do to reach 60, but instead, it's better to run out to Outlands.

Even if you just grind in outlands, you'll get further then you would with quests in Azeroth. If you actually do quests in outland, you will of course, run out of quests around level 62 (unless you are using a lot of rested bonus the whole way).

Some of those quests in EP and Silithus are a lot of fun, but I don't think people will ever really do them again.

Yeah that is what I suspect as well. Once you hit 58 there is no reason to finish up in WS or even EP, or Silithus. Kind of sad that the future level 60s that play this game won't experience those zones like we did, but I guess that is what happens when games have expansions. Who knows maybe in a year or more there will be another expansion and the same will happen to some of the new Outland zones.

Yeah, a friend of mine actually hit 59 the day before the expansion hit, and hit 60 ridiculously quick in outland. He definitely got some good gear upgrades as well :P

Do you think people will do EPL and Silithus for rep gains or are the rewards from rep not worth it compared to outland stuff now too?

In my opinion not worth it at all. The amount of time it would take for you to get the rep you would be level 58 and could get greens with a much higher stat value. I don't see any guilds wanting to stick around level 60 to do old instances, so I don't see any reason whatsoever to grind rep in Argent Dawn or really any of those factions (cenarion refuge, timbermaw, etc).

There are many more factions in the Outland that are more worthwhile. All though they didn't give casters nearly as much cool stuff as melee on those factions.

And to the guy just before this post, they really lowered the amount of experience needed. In Beta, 69 to 70 you needed over a million experience. Now it is only around 780K, which is a huge difference. Overall, I think you are saving yourself a million exp from what they changed it to. I thought it would take longer to level as well, but once I saw how the experience needed was scaling I realized that they drastically lowered the leveling time.
