Fun Arena Data

Post by Rollie »

So with the (soon to be renamed) KillingFields mod, we've been tracking data on various battleground results. Of particular interest to me is the outcome of the arena battles and the makeup of the teams. Here is a little data that I gathered from existing entries.

The number on the left is the number of wins for that class combo.

Top 10 winning 2v2 teams:

Code: Select all

96	Druid - 1 : Mage - 1
73	Mage - 1 : Priest - 1
54	Druid - 2
45	Hunter - 1 : Rogue - 1
34	Paladin - 1 : Rogue - 1
32	Mage - 1 : Paladin - 1
31	Rogue - 1 : Shaman - 1
25	Rogue - 1 : Warlock - 1
23	Druid - 1 : Rogue - 1
20	Druid - 1 : Warlock - 1
Top 10 Winning 3v3 teams:

Code: Select all

42	Hunter - 1 : Mage - 1 : Priest - 1
14	Druid - 2 : Priest - 1
 8	Hunter - 1 : Mage - 1 : Rogue - 1
 8	Hunter - 1 : Rogue - 1 : Warlock - 1
 7	Priest - 1 : Rogue - 1 : Warrior - 1
 6	Mage - 1 : Paladin - 1 : Warlock - 1
 6	Druid - 1 : Mage - 1 : Paladin - 1
For 5v5 teams, there are a lot more permutations and there was only 1 class combo that had more than 5 wins so I'm not including them at this moment.

I'm going to keep an eye on these stats as I think this will be interesting to follow. I'll update as time goes on and we'll see if it's a trend or if it's just due to the people who are currently submitting arena data.

One thing to keep in mind on this. I didn't check to see if the same team was entered multiple times. It is completely possible at this point that there is a kick butt team that wins consistently that also submits lots of data on their battles which *could* skew the numbers.

Case in point. There is a 3v3 Falling Snow team who has played and submitted lots of Arena data:

Mod seems awesome. I plan on using it, but it seems like for it to be effective, it requires community participation even more so than census does. At least with census, one hardcore player can census a whole realm, but this is gonna require a lot of people to get onboard before it is really effective.

Now we'll see the effect of the Druid nerf comming up:
I bet every team with a druid will go down in the rankings ;)

The druid nerf is crap :x Nerf damage if you want to make bear form less effective in pvp, but don't nerf threat. That's just retarded.

On topic... cool to see the stats on teams :) I haven't really done any pvp since tbc came out (except on my paladin) so it's cool to see arena numbers.

They not only nerfed threat, but they buffed rage generation!

How twisted is that? :P

Actually, when I saw the nerfs, they looked acceptable to me... but then, my main's a Mage that hasn't been played for any sort of time in the past 5 months. :o

*is trying to insinuate that Mages have seen the same thing, time and time again*

Yeah I suggest you take a look at the patch notes for druids. A lot of stuff has been nerfed for them.

I leveled my warlock from 40 to 60 based on the "upcoming patch notes" for 2.0, only to find it heavily nerfed over the first month of BC. Such is the way of life :(

Moonkin rock. When I bring out my treants and my insects, there are very few situations I can't conquer. The +spell dmg and +spell crit chance gear that can be found in Outlands has given me Starfire spells that can fell a foe in a second...

...plus, there's the dancing! :D

moonkins are cool...

Doomkins are better: Fly up, dismount, go into moonkin and spam moonfire untill you drop dead.
If you take 10 doomkins you might even kill someone!

I tried moonkin on my druid once 2.0 hit, but I just didn't like it. Of course part of that was the itemization that sucked royally before BC came out, but I just didn't like the playstyle. There was just way too much downtime and since I already have a ranged dps class main, I didn't need to be another ranged dps.

Now, the biggest problem for moonkin is threat generation in pve - since they have no talents to lessen their threat from damage, it's really easy to get hate. Guess that's why they buffed the armor... Good thing horde has pallies now, those oomkin absolutely need BoS, haha.

As soon as 2.0 came out, I was doing some BGs and I had a moonkin crit me for 2600 with starfire. I just about had a heart attack because I have never had a moonkin actually do anything to me other than moonfire, moonfire, moonfire!

Unfortunately, I have never had a good experience with any druid that was moonkin. They want to be main DPS and that is somewhat frustrating to me when I am a warlock.

Finding a healer nowadays is impossible too. You get excited you have a druid in your group to find out he is oomkin spec. Blah... :?
