Census Update - All Zeros

Post by Veltor »

Whenever I look at my WR Updates for Census data, all my updates are listed as 0.

Last night, for example, I played about 6 hours. I have census timer set to 1, so that Census+ takes a new census 1 minute after the previous one ends. Usually I catch about 800 or so updates and 60 or so new people after playing for this long. I submitted the data right after I quit the game. When I checked this morning, the data had been processed, and I received all 0s.

I haven't had a valid update in the past few days and I don't know why.

Can anyone help?

P.S. Maybe my LUA file has grown too large? I've never purged it and I now have nearly 40k players logged on Gnomeregan.

Are you sure you are submitting the right file located:
World of Warcraft/WTF/Accounts/XXX/SavedVariables/CensusPlus.lua ?

Also make sure when submitting that you exit WoW using /quit /logout or selecting those options via the Main Menu (Esc key). If you use Alt + F4 or stop the wow.exe process in Task Manager then the lua files don't save. Make sure that WoW is fully closed and not almost closed before clicking on the Submit button.

I double-checked the directory and file, and I am selecting the correct file.

As always, I use /quit to exit the game. WoW is fully closed before I try submitting data.

I haven't changed anything in the way I've been submitting my LUA file over the past several months.

I'll also add that I've been submitting data several times a week (now several times a day) over the past 6 months or so. I've always received non-zero results. This is the first time I've had this problem.

The first time this happened was June 25th. Since then I have submitted 6 updates (all after playing the game, of course) and each one has received all zeros (one is still pending).

Just logged on and took a new census. Turned on Verbose to make sure it was doing everything it was supposed to. 600+ updated and a few new people found. Exited with /quit command.

Waited a couple minutes to make sure WoW was completely closed. Looked for the WoW.exe process to double check that it was closed.

Submitted .lua (double checked twice to make sure I was in correct directory, and I chose censusplus.lua, NOT lua.bak). Received the following message upon completion:

File appears to be valid, checking your version number.

Checking your file
Found CensusPlus Database
Found CensusPlus Info Data
Found Version Number => Version: 4.1.4 <Found> Locale: US <=

Version check complete!
Thank you for submitting your file! It will be processed soon and the data will be added to all listed data!

I believe I did everything correctly. I'll post an update when this one gets processed.

One thing you can do is purge your database so that it starts off fresh with no characters. Then try submitting.

For whatever reason the last one I submitted finally has non-zero results. Thanks for the help - still don't know what happened, but ignorance is bliss!

For anyone who cars, I believe I have found the problem. My Computer date had been reset back to January. When Census+ scanned, it was listing everyone as being seen January. That was probably it.

I'll know to keep my dates... um... up-to-date.

Just figured you'd want to know what was causing the problem in case anyone has it again. And again, thanks for the help.

Having an incorrect timeclock would definitely do it.

Hm. If Census plus is using the system clock when timestamping when it sees people, wouldn't that give an erroneous picture of realm activity when the system-taker is playing on a realm that is far away from their own timezone (European playing on US realm etc.)? Is there a way to use the server time instead?

It uses the date from your system, and the server time for the time.
