Statistics based on Armory data
Statistics based on Armory data
Hi there,
I wonder if there are any other sites out there like the one from Okoloth (http://okoloth.blogspot.com/) or if WarcraftRealms is thinking about gathering data through the Armory.
Thanks in advance

Bump...!
Hello, I just happened across Okoloth's data (not updated since Nov of last year)... it seems to me that this type of data mining could be used to create a "perfect" census where no active characters are missed, and also provide other interesting statistics such as professions, talents, etc. WR is the premiere site for WoW census data... what can we do to implement armory mining right here??
Thanks, and I'm really enjoying the site and contributing as much census data as I can.

Thanks to everyone for their insights. I have some additional thoughts based on your feedback.
It does seem that the Armory is often outdated when it comes to guild changes, although individual character stats seem to be updated very quickly. At one point, I was actually listed as the guild leader of a guild that I had left weeks earlier and never been leader of in the first place! I'm not familiar with the technical reasons why it is more difficult to find things based on character name than guild name, but let's assume that we can overcome them with some innovative thinking (I'm an engineer, so I like to think that there's always a solution to a problem). Perhaps an approach like the following would be a good compromise between the "fast updates" from the census addon and the additional information available in the armory:
1. A characters enters WR's database when they are first seen by the census addon.
2. WR periodically queries the Armory to find additional information on the character (including "last updated" date). This could be especially useful for realms with very low census submission rates; once we know a character exists, we can use the Armory to find data when census submissions are lacking.
3. In cases where some information (e.g. guild) is inconsistent between census and Armory, the census data is preferred.
I think this would provide slightly better information for realms with low submissions, as well as allow us to take advantage of the additional character information available through the Armory.
