I am really curious as to how accurate this information is now in light of the recent server transfers.
I am on the Icecrown server and we just had quite a few people leave and go to Az-something or other. Do you have some way to clean them out of the server stats for their old server so that the data is more accurate for Icecrown? Or has this already been done?
Accuracy after the recent server transfers
I had a similar concern

I don't know if it's changed but toon names were not unique to the game, only the server. When I first started playing you could have the same toon name on different servers, so if thats still true it would be a lot harder to clean out the database id think.
Rollie? What do you think?
*giggle* yes i will post on everything and anything when servers are down =P

I guess that would cover part of the issue, keeping the guild rosters clean, so long as one person in each guild reports, but i dont think that does anything to server stats. I would think the toons would remain listed on your server, but also appear as new toons if someone someone netted them in a census on their new server. If you submit data from a character in that guild, and have visited your guild panel, it should update here on the site to the same as it is in game.

Well, the data will be skewed for a bit but 30 days after the last transfer day it will be ok again. What you can also do, provided the server has a decent amount of contributions, is look at the weekly activity and see how the concurrent population has been affected - one or two weeks after the last transfer day you should have a very good idea how the population has been affected.
As long as Blizzard doesn't provide population data we will always have to deal with a certain "lag" in the numbers, we can't expect all servers to be fully updated daily.

What Alanthus said!
Basically I have no way to know if a character transfers short of doing some matching between character names and last seen on one server vs. first seen on a new server.
Honestly, this isn't really something I'm too concerned with however.
As Alanthus mentioned, worst case scenario is that the numbers may not be completely indicative during a transfer, but after 30 days, the data will 'expire' and will not be counted in the census data.
Sure, the characters and guilds will forever live in the database, but they will not be used in the Census and activity charts.
Oh, and Alanthus, good to see you around again! Was beginning to think maybe you had abandoned us!

Hehe, well, to be honest I have not played WoW in over a month, been lurking on this site a bit though.
Been playing DAOC with wife trying to get to 50 so we can RvR (PvP in WoW is a joke compared to DAOC), will propably do some PvE in WoW again when I get the time but seeing as I'm home taking care of our baby I tend to be too busy changing diapers to get much playing done
