Quick Stats Filter: Gender

Post by bloodlust987 »

Over on WoWInsider, there was a discussion of Female Tauren, mainly on which doors they are too tall to go through. Everyone on the comments said they were Druid or Warrior, which matches the general Tauren percentages, but are there no heifer hunters or shamans :?:

Just curious.

gender is something ammended via the WCR armory crawling done for the character page. should be a stat that may be used to filter results.

I'm not sure the gender-finding crawl is run very often - http://www.warcraftrealms.com/char/36945849 is one of my characters, which shows a default male image on the profile, but I can assure you she's female... I've been playing that char for quite a long time too ;) Would be very nice to have some more stats about genders of characters though, I'm often curious about that!

Rollie queries the Armory for some information. Gender being one of them, arena teams being a second one.

That is why on some female characters you will see a female picture of the character's race. Now it might take a page refresh or a "come back later" thing before it changes but yes it does happen. And Rollie has said this in the past that he queries the armory for gender info :P

But for in game use. It is currently impossible on English servers to find that information out about gender. However in other languages the realms do return a female name and a male name for the class name. I'm not sure what Rollie does with this info, but I would say that the info isn't of any use. Because on English clients there just isn't a different name for a Female Human Rogue... or a Male Human Rogue... Human is spelt the same in the English Language. Whereas in another language the realms return a different spelling of Human based on if its a female or male.

I've noticed for the past 7-8 months that the chars here haven't seemed to leech the gender from the armory. My chars that I've had for longer, though, have the correct gender association here.

Oh, and yeah my druid is a female tauren... and so is my death knight! Nothing says "I'm a soulless warrior of doom" like the electric slide.

Yeah, looking at the code I have the gender updates disabled for some reason =/

I don't remember why I disabled it. Might have had something to do with trying to pull armory data too often.

And tbh it's not a big deal... at least imo. The armory itself still randomly bugs out, so I can understand that :P

Maybe if there were some way to do the check once and then save that in a variable so it wouldn't check again? I guess that would be tough to do with rerolled names though...
