What's up with the hate & lies about WAR?
I started playing WAR at the start of December and found it to be a great game with many improvements over WoW. I've been playing MMOs since 2001, played WoW for a few years so I know the genre. My reaction after playing for a week or two was "WTF are they talking about, this is a great game".
I never had any real problem playing a scenario, RvR is always happening in at least one nearby zone. I see more and more players each time I play, guilds are active and the game just gets more interesting.
How is WAR "dying" and a "failure"? My server, Dark Crag was low/med population at the start of the month and this week I actually had to get into a queue to log in. WAR is a great game, PvP wise it has vast improvements over WoW. PvE is decent enough, I'm no PvE freak, but apparently there is a lot of undiscovered content which has been carefully hidden away.
Seems like a lot of WoW fanboys are getting antsy, cause there is a fallout from WotLK. Personally, I was enjoying BC and had no interest in the xpac. The 3.0 patch really ruined my WoW gaming experience, as our guild stopped logging in. Blizzard is making a bad move with the focus on the borderline retard players who want handouts, the game has been dumbed down too much. Lot of players from WoW came to WAR after trying the expansion.
I think WoW is a good game and did a lot of things right that previous MMOs were doing right. However, their best work was vanilla WoW and in my opinion, its best days are behind, way behind. Blizzard's sub numbers are embellished, and the reality is that it is mostly Chinese game freaks who pay a fraction of what N.A. and European players do.
Anyway, no need to hate on WAR, it's a great game, better than WoW if you're into PvP. For a game that is only months old and did not dump millions into marketing hype, it is doing tremendously well.

I agree with you, WAR is a good game and me and my wife enjoy playing it, hopefully in a year or so we'll be able to say it's a great game but it does need quite a bit of polish and tweaking still.
That said they did dump millions into marketing hype and upped expectations too a degree where they ended up releasing an unfinished product in many ways which is coming back to bite them. Mythic is considerably more honest about things than for instance Blizzard which hurts them in the short term when it comes to dealing with rabid ex-fans but they should be able to turn things around as they continue to whiddle away at their "to-do" list
As to why the hate, it's pretty easy, MMO fans spend a LOT of time and tend to get quite emotionally invested in they games they pick and when they end up bored, annoyed, frustrated etc. enough to quit the game they turn on it with equal frenzy. This type of thing happens with anything people are invested in but here you have a population that practically lives on forums, blogs and suchlike so when they turn on something they not only have a natural forum readily available but it's also one that feeds on itself and generally encourages excesses by virtue of rewards/attention combined with a great degree of anonymity/immunity from repercussions.

I haven't seen much hate against WAR, especially on this website's forum.
If there is a particular post that bothered you, why don't you reply to it? Starting a new thread just encourages a flame war.
There was discussion about whether a site named "warcraft realms" should be tracking WAR, but I don't think that was any hatred towards the game.
Both are good games, both have their positives. I am personally playing WoW more at this time, but I see no reason to argue about it. Play the game that you enjoy, and both will be around for quite a while.

This site has not had any negative on WAR other than census taking and that was only one post. Some of the negative I see looks to be the WoW fanboy attacks on it.
Played the game since preview weekend and can only say great game. And each patch the game only gets better. The only thing they did wrong was to release to many servers. That has had the main negative impact on the game. The game has well done scenarios (equal to WoW BG), open rvr area are fun in tier 3 and 4, and public quest are work but the rewards are worth it. One of the best parts of WAR is how well balanced the PvP is. Since patch 1.1 it is even better since the overpowered classes where pulled into line. Well the people that want to play in god mode did not like it

I've mostly only heard good things about it, at least from people who are objective. I still plan on trying it out at some point, but I wouldn't switch over unless my group of RL friends comes with me. It can be hard to find honest reviews, since wow (and war) is neither as good as fanbois make it out to be nor nearly as bad as embittered ex players would have you believe.
It's just sad, really, because people should just play what they enjoy playing.

Mystic spent more than your average MMO into marketing but NO MMO EVER spent as much as Blizzard. My friend who originally got me into WoW started playing near its release and I think people forget that WoW was unfinished when it launched.Alanthus wrote: That said they did dump millions into marketing hype and upped expectations too a degree where they ended up releasing an unfinished product in many ways which is coming back to bite them.
I think once put into perspective, WAR is a great game. I hear there is undiscovered PvE content, such as Lairs. I'm only lvl 15, but so far, the leveling progress is more interesting than WoW's.

I have found that usually happens on any official forum. The blizzard forums are full of people who play warcraft. They are going to bash any other MMO that comes along. My guess is that there is a fair amount of Blizzard bashing on the Everquest or War forums.Hydroblunt wrote:Not on this site specifically, but let's say Blizzard WoW forums, it's absurd. I play both games, but if I'm reading on the WoW forums, it's because I want to discuss WoW (not AOC or WAR or Gears of War or Pokeman or Guitar Hero or Manga). I don't need someone telling me how WAR is better. I play both games, and already have formed my opinions about the two games from playing both. When someone is trying so hard to change my mind, I just find it annoying.
I don't get upset when a thread starts discussing something that I don't care about it. I just skip to the next thread. But, others do. Forums grant anonymity, and people are bound to act like idiots just because no one knows who they really are.
I've found that the following comic is an excellent explanation of the behavior I see in internet forums:

Well, here is the thing. Other MMOs get a lot of discussion on Blizzard forums simply because a lot of people want to move on, they are not happy with the turn the game has taken. Many players are in more than one MMO, don't kno whow they have the time.fantom1979 wrote:I have found that usually happens on any official forum. So that's why other MMOs stand out, as people do give honest experiences. But some people just tell straight out lies, there is no need to. I can critisize WoW without lying, it has glaring faults and has taken a turn for the worst. I can critisize WAR too, even though I really like the game and am enjoying it.
I don't see much bashing of WoW in WAR, just plain jokes about how dumbed down it is.
It seems to be very difficult for some to accept that WoW is not what it used to be. The game that I was enjoying is gone. WAR is my new MMO of choice and I'm very satisfied. Too bad Blizzard will never learn the lesson.
