8 888 888 and other "funny" numbers thread :D

Post by 1974ER »

Well, it was still a bit early to post the 9M updates thread, so I ended up with something else. :D

Friday morning I noticed that I might be hitting 8 888 888 updates. Well, I didn't quite. It is now Saturday morning for me, I "overshot" a little bit and now have 8 889 060 updates. :D

However, I had quite a bit of fun trying to guess how much I should census to hit that figure. :D

During the time I have run censuses, I have seen 111, 222, 333, 555 and 666 people online or as "new" ones. 1337 has also come up at least once. I can't recall, if I ever got 1974 exactly, but I know I have been close a lot of times.

Anyone else have any "funny" number stories for us, while I continue heading for 9M? :D

Lol nice one :) Can't think of any funny number I've had but I liked the possibility of 8 888 888! Amazed you're so far on, I'm still well off even 6 666 666 ;)

:D:D:D Hehe, you will get there eventually... :D:D:D After all, in theory, it is doable in less than a month as you are less than 500k away.

For me, I guess I will be posting the 9M thread in the near future as I am less than 43k off of that. :D

Lol in theory, but in practice I'm so busy in RL these days that I'm only censusing the two servers I actually play on, which makes for low numbers ;) Amazed how fast you're going, I had to put a really concentrated effort to ever get the numbers you do, and just can't sustain it more than a few weeks, while you've been going for ages now!

Hehe Wolfnettle. It's not about the big numbers, everyone's efforts are important. My numbers may be high... but the anonymous submission makers throw in huge numbers... If I recall correctly, more than 1,6 million updates in this month... and over 161 million since the start of the site... compared to that, my almost nine million is a mere drop in the sea... :D

balgair... almost 18 months, to be exact... :D:D:D

And I guess I should post that 9M thread soon, as it is no longer far off... :D:D:D

Well, here are a couple of more fun numbers... Bringoutyourdead currently has exactly 10 000 new entries for this month. :D

Also, some days ago, I found 1234 people, while censusing a zeroed out realm. :D

Not so much a "funny" number as an "ouch!" one... censused Al'Akir Alliance at peak time, 7.30pm, got only 152, yet had noticed the server was listed as High pop on the realmlist. Just ran one on Horde side and... 2187. That is a serious imbalance there :O Ran ally side again right after the horde one, 128, 69 lvl 80s. Oh dear :?

Not a special number as such but an amazing one nonetheless - http://www.warcraftrealms.com/census.php?serverid=604 - how on earth did it get over 10k updates?! Must be like a whole guild or something running the mod

Well, apparently the population is really low even at peak times, which means it's easy to submit multiple times in an hour if one chooses to. Let's say 8 hours of game time per day, 3 submissions every hour times 30 days... one person COULD easily be responsible for 720 submissions in a month. If someone was multi-boxing, (s)he might hit 3600 submissions (using 5 accounts) in a month. Very theoretically... 3 people could manage over 10k a month, for about 15 it would be doable without multiboxing and an active guild with 30+ active censusplus user members? Easy. :D

True, just surprised to see so many, don't think I've ever seen a server over 2k in a month ;) If it's a pretty fast census to run that'd help, since some people could well have it set at a short census timer (mine's 10 mins for example) so that'd be like 4-5 an hour easy if it doesn't take ages to run. Would still take a fair number of people to get that many though, I'm impressed!

Yeah but I was saying updates, as in, censuses run, not characters seen ;)

Hehe, I didn't make it that clear, it's less obvious now since that server's down to "only" 5k censuses run, it stood out a mile when it was in 5 figures and most others only in 2 ;)

Another funny one just appeared... as of right now, I have found 44 444 new characters this month. What's even funnier is that it almost didn't happen, because I was thinking of running a couple of more censuses, but in the end decided to get some sleep instead. :D:D:D
