Is Warcraftrealms.com ready for MoP?

Post by FuxieDK »

In 2 weeks, MoP goes live, and the world will be flooded with Pandaren, Monks and level 86-90s..

We all know that bringoutyourdead did a huge job in bringing CP up to v5.0.4. (v5.0.5 seems to go live this week ;-)), but what about the webpage itself?

Does anyone have any info they can share?
An updated AddOn, sadly, is worthles, if the webpage can't handle the data..

The addon is ready for 5.0.5.. unless they bump the TOC version level on us. If they do I'll push a minor update with that and a few look and feel fixes.

Balgair and I have been looking at Cross-realm census data collected via mouse-over and targeting of characters... but we have run into a roadblock with how blizzard presents realm name data. In their infinite wisdom realm names show up at least three if not more different ways in the game. I am not sure that we have seen all permutations yet, but I do have a copy of a censusPlus output file where Balgair generated three different data streams for the same server depending on if she was on the realm doing a standard /who , the sighted character was from the same or different realms. I think we might find a work around for this but probably not in time for MoP.

And that leads to your question FuxieDK. I have been in contact with Rollie and he states " I'm back in the saddle..." and is working on the issue. I had volunteered to help on this but the site is rather complicated in that most web pages you see are dynamically created from his databases. Which means you really need to know and understand the underlying process. Only Rollie as site owner has that knowledge at this time.

Will the site be updated in time.. we can only hope so. Rollie does know his deadline for the task.. I made sure of that

I know the addon is ready.. My question wa primarily aimed for the site itself.. ;-)

On the subject of cross-realm-census, I brought up few ideas back in 2010, you might want to take a look at --> http://www.warcraftrealms.com/forum/vie ... hp?p=35534

Looked at the thread, and there are good ideas but they won't work with the basic philosophy of WarcraftRealms.com.

Rollie decided that he wanted to do census counts of active played characters not created characters which is what someone like realmpop.com does. Rollie will always under count since there aren't enough census takers, but realmpop is grossly over counting. I know that I have created 300-400 characters.. almost all named censustaker on nearly every US realm, along with the nearly 50 characters on my real active account. For myself I only consider about 40 of my characters as "active played" level 1-4 census takers or level 1 bank alts just don't fit that label in my mind.

Guild scanning is in the works, but it can only be active online guild members or we break Rollies rules. This unfortunately means we can't find characters who leave a guild unless we do a census on them and find the guild info changed... to do otherwise would require Census takers to NEVER prune or purge their local databases (or you wouldn't have valid info to compare against.)

Passive scanning is something that would be nice but isn't workable since there isn't a WoW event triggered by someone leveling that is automatically sent out to guild or party members. Yes addons can generate messages from the users event triggers (the leveling player gets a event trigger). But scanning of chat message is messy... just ask Rollie. (or maybe not these days). I think there must be an event trigger for new member in guild, but I haven't been able to locate the actual event name. Someone doing a /gquit doesn't trigger anything as far as I know. Though I have been know to be wrong (very rarely)

Time is almost up, as by the time I finish typing this message, less than 26 hours remain on the clock. So, how do things look?

Bringoutyourdead is in contact with Rollie, at least last I heard, and hopefully things are being worked on - I haven't heard from him in a couple of days though so I think the last few hours may be a bit of a rush. Can live with it if the site's a bit late tbh, so long as "a bit" means 1-2 days, not the month or however long it was last time... which hopefully will not happen this time! ;)

Addon should have an update coming shortly; the last test version I got had a minor typo in it, but in theory it should be ready to roll when that's corrected, including mouseover capturing of crossrealm characters (which is definitely working, based on the previous version I tested) :)

17,5 hours until the madness starts in EU...

I hope we don't need to stockpile files again..
Maybe if Rollie would disable processing BUT LEAVE UPLOAD ENABLED, it could be nice for us..

I can't remember with certainty, but I think I went into "stockpile mode" on December 6th and that lasted long enough that I uploaded 60 (or more, can't check at the moment) files when functionality returned, possibly around December 27th or so.

Unless I see otherwise, I guess I engage "stockpile mode" roughly around my local midnight, which is one hour before launch. I /censusplus prune 0'd my .lua late last night, so I have a bit of breathing space, though I am hoping to make multiple uploads today. :)

I am also glad to hear about the upcoming mouseover functionality as especially yesterday I saw a significant amount of cross-realm "travelers" in Thunder Bluffs and Dalarans among other places.

I guess I will be checking Curse.com for the updated version late(r) today. :)

Not only did we stockpile, processing was also disabled..
However, it's not nessesary to force us to stockpile, if processing is disabled.

Best of all, ofc, would be, if the website is ready in 16h49m... ;-)

We'll find out how things go pretty soon. :D Additionally, since most of EU will get least a few hours of sleep between 00:00 and 08:00 CEST, the final breakpoint will be when the US servers go MoP... 9 hours later, if I read the official forums correctly.

I'll be oing my sleeping from 17 to 23:30 tonight..
This way, I can (hopefully) get 5 hours of MoP, before I need to "wake up" for work..

Well, I hope you are currently asleep, Fuxie. I, on the other hand, have things to do, so no sleep for me.... but increased census count. :D Now a bit over 6 hours remain...

I've done my sleeping all morning and half the afternoon, will be interesting to see how long I last tonight but the aim is to play all night and get ahead of the crowd :) My census contributions will be pretty much nil for the next week regardless of site being updated or not I think, can't see myself leaving my home server anytime soon, but hopefully it'll be ready soon enough anyway!

Hehe nice :) I hope I can stay awake well into the morning, but through lovely timing, I've caught a cold at the worst possible time and only have half the energy I should have, bah.

Right now I'm sitting in Org or rather, on a ledge high above it, trying to stay away from the crowds, since having slideshow fps gives me a headache :P Days like this, I hate being on a high pop server, there's 2.5k Horde online right now and I think they're ALL in Org...

Censusplus addon is updated on Curse btw, been doing some hectic lastminute work with bringoutyourdead tonight and we hope all bugs are caught, couple we can't test till after midnight :)

As of moments ago.. Curse.com posted the new version of CensusPlus

I don't know where Rollie is on his updates... but since he requested a new Internal version number... I expect (but don't really know) that he will be able to accept the new format uploads.

They may first show up as E uploads.. but I expect that he will reprocess all new E's when he has the website coding done.

10?! What on earth are you doing to make that many? lol. I'd condense them a little or you'll have a few hundred - uploading wasn't working last I tried...

I let CP run twice and then do a /RL to force data to be flushed, and then stockpile the file..
Rinse and Repeat..

This way, we get most level-ups caught..
