I want to release this as the latest version. Can I get a few folks to check this out and report any issues? I would really appreciate it!

I think I found a bug. I took a screenshot, and I will email it to you.

Basically when it is doing a census for a night elf rogue for example, and it is doing it by the alphabet it will recognize some 58, and 59's, but than will go back to who 60 night elf rogues or whatever.

Also I found another error possibly. On a very high population server it used the whole alphabet on night elf rogue (imagine that....lol), but when it got to A it still gave the error too many matching, and moved on to level 59. I know you have mentioned it before that it still works, but I thought I remember you saying the error messages were going away. Is it to the point on some servers that you are going to have to go to double letter name checks like aa, ab, ac, ad, ba, bb, bc,bd, etc. It is just crazy that it seems everyone plays Night Elf Rogues, or Human Paladins.

Okay. Here is another thing I just noticed. After purging it should purge all characters. When I purged, and than logged onto one server it still showed 3 random characters still on the census.

A bug or not....

I am really disappointed in my results for my last few submissions. I know maybe someone else beat me to it, but the numbers are so low that I believe something may have gone wrong. I know that I spent 3 hours+ on a census, and netted 300 char updates when at the time each server on avg was showing 2k people online. I did about 10 servers each one, and find it hard to believe that out of 20k submissions that only 300 were updates. Earlier in the day I was lucky to find 500 people on each server, and got close to 6k+ updates. I know maybe lots of people submitted last night, but maybe 2.7.1 beta version isn't working correctly. I know my uploads were over 1mb each when I looked before compressing with UU, and uploading. So were there alot of updates? From what I seen on the db stats page there weren't which makes me believe even more that there was some kind of glitch. Any insider info you can give me Rollie? Was the update to big that it skipped most of it?

It won't partially process a data file. It's an all or nothing deal, so those would not be partial numbers.

The 300 you are seeing are new characaters encountered that were not already in the database. The 2k numbers are updates to existing characters. Keep an eye on it and if you continue to see lower numbers than you expect, let me know and I'll dig into it a bit. I don't really have any reason to think this is out of the ordinary.

As for the DB stats, it is from the last time an update was run, which would have been around noon or so today.

Just a little thing, a lot of people that submit manually take repeated census while playing and upload after they log off, since most people log off between 10 pm and 1 am it's a lot more likely that people have already sent in the updated character when you submit after midnight rather than at say 9 pm.

Most people also fit their census taking around their playing so one day you might be playing a lot and doing a lot of census, another you're not playing or you're raiding or something and don't want to run stuff in the background. This all means there is huge difference in the number of submissions on some servers from day to day.

Like Rollie said, if you consistently results that appear strange then it may be worth looking into but the fact that all other contributors are human is the most likely explanation for discrepancies ;)

I am sorry for venting my frustrations. I guess personally I want the #1 spot, and when I dedicate many hours to taking census's on other servers I expect more return investment.

I did census on 20+ servers from 9pm-1am last night to get the same results I got from taking a census on 5 servers this morning before going to work. The sad thing is on some of the higher pop servers it took 20-30mins to run the census with horrid results.
