Next update for CensuPlus

Post by bringoutyourdead »

Planned for some time in the later half of this month.
Mostly a clean up and web site support update.

We have found that Blizzard doesn't always have a clue as to which realms they have added into Connected Realm sets. So instead of depending on their Blogs and forum messages we are going with ground truth.
The addon will be adding to the saved data the connected realm membership information found during census runs. Metalbeast will be using that data to keep one or more WarcraftRealms.com web pages up to date with this information.

While pruning back older data does cut down the size of the file that is uploaded to the web site, it leaves empty table branches. This doesn't really impact processing but it is dead weight and I want to do a better job of pruning out the dead branches once they are empty of data.

And I found a fix that will make some people happy...
Next update will (unless something comes up in testing) have the end of Census run Connected realms list output on two lines... the header and the list of realms.

Some very nice updates there, I especially look forward to not scrolling through a few dozen servers of empty table branches to check anything out in my luas! Probably only affects a few of us multi-realm people, but it'll be very useful to us :) The shortened connected realms info on census end will be very popular with anyone who plays on the 10-realm monster group too, I'm sure :P

I think you better make sure the system works with 3 lines total, too... I am fairly sure 10 server names will not fit on one line of names.

that is part of the EU testing that has or will start shortly.... I'm not sure what the limit of a single chat line is.. I'm planning on using the automatic line wrap Blizzard has for the chat window.
None of the US realms have combined names long enough to cause a wrap.

Just did a census run on the chromaggus realm set, 6 realms.
the default chat window size is large enough to handle the 6 realm names on a single line.
if I shrink the chat window to its smallest size, Blizzard auto wraps the last 2 names to a 2nd line.

Test version is a huge improvement on one line per server, wrapping over onto three lines is about as good as it was likely to get for that group, I'd say! That's default UI with default window size so widening the chat window might get it down to two lines :)

That will be for a future update.

I'm already in the process of ripping out the old Options process and replacing it with a much more comprehensive and detailed item level of display features.
This will allow fully verbose (even more in chat and in window) to fully silent.
The other major change is to finally get CensusPlus fully Localized so that the Addon can support any Blizzard supported language.
(note this only means the in game displays and not anything to do with www.warcraftrealms.com.)

At some point in time I'm going to be requesting language support from people via curseforge.com localization process.
I'm not pushing this at this time since the current 95 line items in the localization table will probably grow to well over 200 items.

I don't expect any of this to see the light of day before WoD is out.

On the other hand working on the soon to be release code meant that I had to revert back to the life code base, I've been working and playing with a lot of code that only looks clean with WoD.
As the code maintainer/developer I can live with odd looking displays.. which if I released now would only cause lots of confusion and angst.
The new code that I could slip in now has been added for the release this week.

Minor request for change in next version:

In the UI of the addon, could races and classes PLEASE be sorted in the official order? I.e. the order races/classes are on the character creation screen..

I reckon, it's a change that can be done in ~5 minutes..
Doing census mainly on Draenor; Raluf - Nimsay - Lusmo - Quixx - Sosyan - Garthog - Trubin - Zalistra - Zesmi and Djaang
