I sure don't think there will be any game play.

Looking at the forums it looks like all hands on deck at Blizzard
..and oh they are pushing another build right now on the PTR
..Tuesday might just be a joke.

Oh it is going to be worse then that... I predict at least 4 hot patches by the weekend.
At least the new game data structure should make patching less traumatic.

Times like this, I always enjoy being in the EU - by the time our patch arrives, the worst of the bugs the US got have been fixed and the fixes rolled into our patch ;)

Addons will be a nightmare methinks, I'll probably disable most and gradually enable/find replacements, think at least half my favourites are likely dead anyway, usually I spend the first couple of weeks of a major patch hunting out replacements. Also going to look for one to bring back the proper quest frame, I hate the new one, simplicity wins for me!

Well the good thing is I ought to be Flu free this year...
The bad.. I got started updating later then I had planned.. and due to the disk space issues of having Live, Beta and PTR... I had do do disk clean up as my notebook was showing strange behavior as the free space was fluctuating up and down 9GB and that was before I started the Battlenet app!

I had done disk defrag and optimizations last night.. but decided to do more clean up.
removed the Blizzard Artwork and Interface code extracted from 5.4.? while it wasn't a lot of space about 1GB it was over 20k files..

I started Battlenet.. and watched the old client slowly being eaten by the update as it moved from old format to new.. and things stopped or at least slowed.
a Hotfix to a new subversion had been pushed...
So I shut down Battlenet and restarted... and nothing really happened.

IF YOU discover things stopped.. and find that Blizzard pushed a new hotfix..
do not just shutdown battlenet and start it again... you need to either go into running process and kill off battlenet... or just restart your computer!

Good to know...

Both my machines started to patch, I guess, at 1:00 (4,5 hours ago) and will continue to crunch while I'm at work..
I'll be home 10ish hours and hopefully they are borh finished, although I have my doubts about the laptop..

Not to be impatient, but when do you expect to release the Census-update?

EDIT: 5:20, neither was finished. 5:55 both machines were finished :-)

Since I don't have stock holders breathing down my corporate neck..
I can still work on the old Blizzard mantra..
It will be ready when it is ready...

And I'm the most impatient about getting this released and working clean.
I've had to sideline a number of projects to focus on this..

If only they'd stuck to that one, US forum reaction to the new models is pretty much exactly what I expected based on beta, it was clear they tried to do too much, too fast, and quality has suffered, especially on the "it'll look like your character but better" deal they kept telling us about :(

I'm actually not looking forward to servers coming up, as I'll find out just how many of my longtime characters I now hate (only copied a few over to beta), thankfully my main and most my primary alts are ok but my first main I can't see any way of making him feel like my character again, it's a bit gutting really.

My notebook disk drive having all three clients (Live 5.4.8, PTR and Beta) with all the builds on the later two had gotten fragmented. Even though I had done the suggested/recommended defragmentation I ended up with issues.

Since I was running close to or even below the Microsoft recommended minimum of 10% free disk space (for me that was 75GB free), I got to see how the WoW data structure conversion worked on the disk.

When they pushed another hotfix before I had finished the conversion, my battlenet app choked. Blizzard said exit and restart Battlenet app.... I have found this to not be fully correct. Under certain conditions one of the Battlenet app processes fails to shutdown.
So if you need to force a clean restart of Battlenet app to pick up new download info.. you need to either check your running processes and manually kill off any remaining Battlenet or just reboot your computer.

Since I was concerned that Battlenet didn't seem to be actually finishing the conversion... I started looking for wasted disk space that I could clear.. and I ended up removing two copies of the extracted World of Warcraft client Artwork and Lua data since they were version 5.

I didn't free up that much space only about 2GB, but I did free up over 70,000 files. It was during my dinner break when I was scanning the Blizzard forums to see what might be going on that I realized the Battlenet issue above.. and I decided to run another defrag... the conversion of data structures on my machine had used every possible empty data hole it could find... my hard disk was more fragmented then when I had started the process!!!!!

I had been seeing this last week before the 6.0.2 release a performance issue with my frame rate in game... at first I thought it was just network issues.. then I thought disk trashing due to fragmentation.. don't know which for sure... but I'm seeing people complaining about game play.. and I expect their disk drives are badly fragmented.

Moral of the story... defrag and optimize your hard drive before AND after doing the upgrade...
You will be much happier with your game play.. though I can't speak to actually changes that Blizzard made.

Oh was I so wrong... looking at the Blue posts on Blizzard forums I have already counted 5 acknowledged hot patches for issues... after less then 24 hours.

and exactly 4 hours before scheduled restart.. the realm I was on went down with no notice.

edit: or at least I got a world server down message and got dump...
but realm didn't go down on in client realm selection..

so I shutdown WoW and Battlenet and restarted

checking to see if there were any responses to my Bug reports to Blizzard.. nope

but I see they are averaging a page of topics per hour...
had to go back 22 pages to find my first report that was just over 22 hours ago.

didn't even know it existed.. not sure if I can touch that as that project belonged to the previous developer.
