you PURCHASE the use of a "domain name" for 1 or 5 years. Once you purchase it, it will be REGISTERED. Once it is REGISTERED, you must PURCHASE the use of SPACE or be prepared to HOST your own.

for registration of domain name i recommend gandi.net
for hosting services I am not really sure what is available for EU. I believe gandi has some links and information you may find useful.
